IUP marching band, and who did you see? or want to see?

Post by f.sciarrillo »

I was at IUP last night watching the High school Band Chapters competition. As one of the bonuses, they had the IUP marching band play and exhibition for the people. They are really good. I was quite impressed.

Has anyone else seen them, or any other college marching band perform? I would love to go see the Penn State blue band play as well.

I have. Go figure.
IUP is a very good band for that size of school. Luckily they have a music degree program that helps feed it.

If you really want a good treat, go and watch the Cadets train at Richland HS. The Cadets are a national drum and bugel corp (ie competitive kick ass marching band). Richland HS has the privledge of hosting them in May where they train for their show.
The guys and gals are rediculous - they are outside in the heat busting their asses all day long. Let me tell you, they are NOT nerdy fat band dorks. These guys and girls are top notch physical as well as musical. The musicianship and precision in amazing. Go check them out this May.

Last spring, I was doing a poster presentation in Sutton for some of my research, and a grad student from the music department came and did a cello performance - very cool stuff!
