This just happened to a friend of mine with 33 years of service. Then they offered him a job at another position for $3 less an hour and 50 mile drive one way.

They actually cut about 800 high level maintenance positions.

Bedford Plastics laid off a bunch of us in July. Guys who started at $10.00. Now they're hiring through Spherion for $8.25.

When will these companies get it. These Rent-A- Workers are, for the most part, there just to receive a check. They could give two shits about the company. I see it every day. " I'll do a half ass job and you pay me now."
The only thing I can offer up to the younger people in the work force is to make yourself so valuable to your employer, that it is extremely hard to replace you.

I hate to politicize this thread, but that's how the trickle down economic theory works (for the 1%). Or doesn't work (for the laborer).

That's exactly why the top 1% are under fire, they are making record profits and this is how they do it. :(

Companies are firing and rehiring at a lower pay scale. The funny thing is that it has been happening for a long time and is just now starting to get noticed.

Guys who still work there told me that a group will be hired and half don't show up and the other half quit within a week or two. Not to mention the tens of thousands of dollars worth of material they f*cked up.

BOOYAH!!!!
Anyway, that's pretty screwed up, I hope everyone who lost their jobs can stay on their feet financially and find better jobs. And I hope their ex-managers get what's coming to them.

That's an extremely shitty thing to do to someone. The economy sucks right now (for the 99%) and jobs aren't exactly falling off trees. If you fire someone it should be because they're screwing up the job, not because you're trying to save a few bucks. It really infuriates me that most employers only seem to care about making maximum profit. And the funny thing is...the power is and always has been in the hands of the people. If every worker in the country suddenly stopped working, I'm sure you would find you have the one percent's undivided attention. The one percent may be filthy rich, but they can't run the country by themselves.

The sad thing is that most people ARE job scared. The business owners are taking full advantage of it, too. "If you don't want to hump your ass off for what I'm willing to pay you, then go somewhere else. And good luck."

This is what the "evil" unions are for. To get the attention of that 1% and make things fair for the workers (so that they don't get fired to be replaced by workers on lower payscales). But they are apparently the root of all our troubles, according the the republicans.

I agree with Hawk.
