Whenever my chops are sucking, like now,i pull out some Mike Stern to shame myself into practicing. In my younger days i studied under Joe Robuck and Mick Dennis.Mic got me hooked on Stern's standards album.A few days ago i pulled it out.My god what a record!!I can't stop spinning it.Kinda makes me sad and long for those days before "real"life.Ya know when you could just sit with the old Metroclicker for 10 hours at a clip and dream of being a "Musican"!In a few weeks i'm on the chopping block to have knee surgery. After i get over the depression of losing my summer and motorcycle time.I'm gonna get the clicker and a few long lost records back out and learn to BURN again.Sorry for the ramble.Peace.

I would have to agree with you there, I've heard alot of good things about them, and I can't recall having seen them. (Seem to vaguely recall perhaps an early incarnation of them atleast 4yrs ago, they might not have even been going by that name, or they might not even have been a band at that point, or maybe they were just jamming, but I do recall that Jason was playing with them, in fact that's the 1st time I met some fellow rockpager's such as Hawk, Jason, and Lonewolf, among others who name's escape me at the moment....f.sciarrillo wrote:One of these days I am going to see the Hawks. I think it was at some dude's backyard in Geeseytown, perhaps someone with a more vivid memory can shed some light on that one. (It was a benefit that Dirty Sanchez put together) I do know that it was so damn hot out that day and there was virtually no shade, and i was stoned off my ass.)
You know there's alot of bands on here that I haven't seen to be honest. I have all intentions of, but life seems to get in the way, and I'm not much for being in bars so much...

'Church, that was the Easter Seals benefit. That day was awesome. If I remember correctly, that was the Hawks very first gig. I wasn't playing with them back then, Mike B. was. I was playing in Flame Sky then (we played too). I didn't join up with the Hawks until November of 2010. The Hawks totally blew me away that day. That was definitely the day I met you though, great day all around (it was too freakin' hot, though).metalchurch wrote:

There are quite a few on here that I haven't seen either, but would love to. I'm also not much on the bar scene. But I do want to make to make a point to see some of the guys on here play. Hopefully soon.metalchurch wrote:I would have to agree with you there, I've heard alot of good things about them, and I can't recall having seen them. I have a .38 Special 2 CD anthology I am listening to right now. Great band. I have played lots of their songs over the years and never get tired of them. I saw them live a few times too and they always put on a great show.

Yes Frank, I believe you are correct on that one if I remember correctly. Great band indeed! I love their tone and their simplistic approach to song writing.
Duaine, that 2cd set would very cool to have! I'm grounded to youtube for alot of that stuff because since I've moved from Hollidaysburg to somerset, alot of my stuff seemed to have disappeared, kinda like doing a load of laundry and missing a sock type of thing.
Jason, my apologies, I'll certainly blame it on the heat, errr The Flamed Sky
I do remember your Gibby V though. Thanks for setting me straight on the date/event, it's been a little while.

I couldn't remember if a Van Zant brother was in .38 special or not. Thanks for clearing that up, Metalchurch and Duaine.

Wow! That's a great tone!! I admit, I've heard of him many, many times, just from being a guitar player, and reading Guitar World and Guitar Player magazine, but I've never actually took 5 minutes to listen to the manf.sciarrillo wrote: Here is another Bonamassa tune. -> If Heartaches Were Nickels.

My loss for sure.
The first time I saw him play was on guitar center session, on directv. I liked what I saw and did some looking and found that he's been playing since he was really young. There are video's of him on youtube playing at age 12. Even then he was better than I could ever be. He is an amazing guitar player.
Here he is at 12 playing on stage:

I've only got a cassette player in my Jeep, so my selections are limited. Every once in awhile I stumble on something that's been in some box for a decade or so and then I pull it out and give it a listen. About a week ago I came across Voi Vod's "Nothingface" and haven't been able to take it out yet. I like it better now than I think I did in '89.

Stravinsky anyone? Check out the 2:35 mark of "Pre Ignition".

Voi vod were pretty good. I remember Matt Burns listening to them a lot. Them and Dirty Rotten Imbeciles.

That makes 2 of us! I purposely got rid of the cd player I had in my 82 Mustang and put in a cassette player just for the nostalgia effect.Gallowglass wrote:I've only got a cassette player....
My home stereo has high speed dubbing, so I can make you some copies of some really good metal in no time at all.
I actually just got done converting Styx: Piece's of Eight, and Paradise Theatre from cd to cassette, so I'm ready for Saturday night! lol

I've been a big fan of all of these for years now, but got out of listening to them for a long time and have been hitting them pretty hard the last few weeks: the Cure, the Smiths, and Queen (who I've listened to alot more in recent years than the former two, just certain songs here and there on youtube, but I started dragging out my old stereo and my Queen tape lately...when that happens, you know I need a serious Freddy fix)
