Music Trivia - Name this artist.

Post by f.sciarrillo »

I am thinking of an artist. This artist had more top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the 1980s than any other artist. This artist was also one of three to have sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as solo artists and (separately) as principal members of a band. Can you tell me who this artist is?

As a Bonus. Can you tell me who the other two artist who have sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as solo artists and (separately) as principal members of a band ?

I was editing to add more as you posted this, Steve. Michael Jackson is close. But not right. That was a good guess. He is however, one or the other two to have sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as solo artists and (separately) as principal members of a band.

So who can tell me the artist I am thinking of and the other artist to have sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as solo artists and (separately) as principal members of a band ?

Phil Collins - 150 million
Genesis - 150 million

I think the other one is Paul McCartney & The Beatles

You got it, Jeff! It was Phil Collins. When you include his work with Genesis, other artists (in duets and the like), and his solo career. He had more top 40 hits on the billboard hot 100 than any other artist.

Now can you tell me the other artist to have sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as solo artists and (separately) as principal members of a band? We already know that two of them were Phil Collins and Micheal Jackson. But who was the third?

Yes, Stumblefingers! It was Paul McCartney. His work with the Beatles (Sold over 500 million Albums), and solo (sold over 200 million). With Wings he sold 65 million albums.

Great guesses guys. If anyone has a trivia, please feel free to post it.
