. Nobody in the room will utter the phrase "turn the bass down."
see I'm learning already, I thought it was just MY band that whines about the bass needing turned down.

Sounds like a great idea, Kent! I would def be up to meeting some of the other bassists in the area, if y'all don't have any aversion to upright players... I've always been a doghouse man myself...

Got my start on the upright my brother brought home when he was in the AAHS orchestra! I remember trying very hard to play along with big band stuff and my sad attempts at Primus - Mr. Krinkle.. Seems like another life ago now...

I keep a little low-end Dean elec-upright around the house but don't spend the time required to be good enough with the thing..

Good news! We now have a tentative date/location for our "bass-in"!

Date: Tuesday, August 19, 7-9 p.m.
Location: Saint Francis University Boilerhouse Fine Arts Facility

I will post directions/details once we are completely confirmed with the university. My suggestion would be that we put an agenda together with some folks who are willing to give presentations to the group while still leaving time for an open jam (we should get a drummer or two to come as well). I'll have two bass amps available, but we'll probably need more gear.

I'll volunteer to give a gear demonstration of my Carvin 1200 head and BRX cabs. Any other volunteers? I'm thinking we do 15-20 minute presentations. The session will be followed by beer and stuff at the Loretto Pub and Grill. If everyone wants pizza and beer, I can probably negotiate a special with the owner.

More as soon as we get confirmed....

Pending how my work and moving schedule turns out, I plan on attending.

I'd be more than happy to donate a rig for the night.

Actually, I figured that "Dealing with Swamp Ass" might earn a regular spot on our meeting agenda.

Okay, seriously...I talked to K-Dawg (i.e., Kent) and came up with a presentation:

Chordal playing for bass in both ensemble and solo situations.

I could tell everybody what type of woods their basses are made of!!! I don't really have any knowledge to share.....just tech talk and gear junkie jargon. I will however, hopefully have a slew of different basses to try out for those that want to mess with different styles of basses.

See y'all sooon.

If anyone has a bass that needs electrical parts replaced, like pots, pickups, jacks, etc and isn't sure of their soldering skills, I can do that part for you. Same goes for any kind of preamp installs, but you'll need to do your own woodwork (I'll bring a drill and stuff for you to use). I hate woodwork...

Just have the parts or let me know what you need (or what bass you have and what the symptoms are) and I'll get them (you'll owe me cost of parts, thats it).

Anyone who just wants to learn how to solder, I can help you with that too.

As for bass itself, I'm pretty sure you guys know more than I already so i'll probably just be watching as much as possible.

Bump....post if you're in for sure, and let me know if you're in for the bar hangout afterwards (so I can get a head count...we can probably get some pizza/beer discounts from Loretto Pub and Grill). So far, Paul is doing a technique demonstration, Jackansi is volunteering for gear maintenance, Dan's all about identifying your wood (pun intended;), and I'm doing a gear demo of my Carvin rig. Anybody else in to do a demonstration?

Ciao,
