Colin Powell is on face the nation. He makes more sense than many politicians I've heard. This is the first I ever really paid attention to him though, so I have no strong opinion, but he says a lot of what I feel. The dick cheney shooting thing was blown out of proportion. I as well as many people I know have been peppered while bird hunting. It was def the shooters fault tho.
I'm also sick of hearing the "if this happened to the obamas" argument. Reminds me of a little kid crying instead of being accountable.
She's pissed again.

So thinking like that, what evidence do you have to show that voting for someone with a D behind their name is good for the country?songsmith wrote:Once again, Joe:undercoverjoe wrote:Hey, Ron Paul won the straw vote at that convention!!!!! Then apparently his named was booed when it was announced that he won. Shows that the old country club republican neo cons do not like Ron Paul. Good, they should not.
I still hope Ron runs as an independent or Libertarian in 2012. Then I will actually have some real hope for this country.

edited for the link.
I would ABSOLUTELY vote for Ron Paul EXCEPT for one giant detail: The (R) behind his name. If he would turn his back on the party that screws him constantly, especially in the current anti-encumbent political environment, he'd actually be a serious contender, and would shake American politics to it's very foundations. But so far, he hasn't had the courage to break away, instead depending on the establishment for the big bucks needed to wage a national campaign (which they deny him, based on his desire to end business-as-usual). Otherwise, it's a wasted vote, again.--->JMS
Ron already had the courage as you say to break away, he ran for president on the Libertarian ticket in '88. The two party strangle hold on this country prevented him from getting on any debates at all, and very few ballots.
Pay attention to the man and to principles, not party loyalties.

I have a lot of respect For Powell, and I seriously think that if Ron Paul would go independent and run for President on that ticket; he would have a better chance of winning. There should be a third party there. This Republican / Democrat stance on things is not helping matters. Especially seeing that there are more and more people losing all hope in either party. And they should be. Neither party has done anything to make the situation at hand any better.
Music Rocks!
I didn't blame Obama or Biden. The guy that Cheney shot, Harry Whittington, came up behind Cheney and his group but didn't let anyone know he was there.songsmith wrote:Me neither, but if I were out hunting, I would know my shot BEFORE I took it. That's standard 12-year-old hunter-safety-course stuff. I hunted rabbits and pheasant exactly the same way you hunt quail or doves... standing in a spread-out line with other hunters. If a bunny breaks between you and the next guy in line, YOU DON'T SHOOT. It's just a freaking rabbit. I can't believe you're defending this... it must be part of the conservative attitude that if we do it, it's right; if they do it, it's wrong. Blaming Obama and Biden is just icing on my point.--->JMSMerge wrote:[If I were out hunting, I wouldn't walk in front of a loaded weapon. .

Here's a statement that Harry Whittington released after the accident:

This has nothing to do with a conservative attitude, what happened with Cheney was an accident. The media, however, made it seem like Cheney meant to shot the guy. The liberal media was screaming for his head, I somehow doubt they would be doing the same if Joe Biden were involved in a similar accident.
I am a conservative, but that doesn't mean that I agree with everything that the Republicans do. I disagreed when the Bush admin called anyone that questioned them "unpatriotic". I disagree when people in the Obama admin (not the President himself) call people "racist" when they question their agenda. If the President does a good job, whether he's a Republican or Democrat, I'm all for re-electing him to another 4 year term. I'm more concerned with Congress, as the President can't do anything without their approval. I just wish both parties would learn to work together, though I doubt that will ever happen.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
Points taken. However, all involved had a great deal to lose if there was more to it, and I'll point out that the incident was covered up until late Sunday, so it wouldn't become Sunday morning talkshow fodder at a politically vulnerable time for him. And no matter what, you know your shot or you don't pull the trigger. It's not political, it's a gun safety thing, without the allegations of alcohol/gun use.--->JMSMerge wrote:I didn't blame Obama or Biden. If this would have been some backwoods hick shooting his buddy by mistake, it wouldn't have ever hit the national news, that stuff happens pretty routinely. I could only ever blame Cheney if he had something to gain by shooting Whittington. Which he didn't. Accidents happen.
This thread does pretty much sum Palin up... Many people forget her and move on to other stuff until someone makes her cry, then after giving her a pity party, they forget about her again...
