Roosevelt Jr high almost gone....

Post by HurricaneBob »

I was just driving by today and saw its almost gone. Had some fond memories of that school. Mr Smearman was my fav teacher, funny man!
In 7th grade i was QB and Johnny Mcknight was my center, i always joke with him about how i should have grabbed some soul from him..:P Used to love watching the stage and jazz band with John and Fran Hite, man those guys could play. I had a fun drama class with Mr Mckracken, we would make up our own skits and just be nutballs. Those were the days...

Anyone else here RJHS alumni? or KJHS too.

Bob, I did not go there, but I have a question as I watch it come down. Why not use the building for some purpose? Maybe an old folks home and community center. How about just a general community center for all sorts of purposes. Like music venues in the old gym?

It just seems so wasteful to tear down a building that still had some useful live left in it.

It's probably going to be for parking since they built the new JH on the old lot.

actually I heard it's going to be a new athletic field. Cause you know the old one is in such bad shape.

RJHS alumni!

I liked Keirn's Art Elective class.. screw around all year, fun times.

I had a tetris tournament on gameboy in that class, brought in two gameboys and a link cable ;)

I went to Hollidaysburg. The only memories of RJHS is when we played them in Jr. High football. grades 7-9 they didn't score on us all three years haha. GO TIGERS!!!!

I didn't go to RJHS, but can relate on another level. I attended Logan Junior High School before they converted it into an elementary school. And before Logan, I attended Greenwood and East End Elementary Schools; Greenwood is now Blair County Head Start, and East End is (I still believe) a bedding or furniture store (on the corner of Kettle Street and Pleasant Valley Blvd., across from Burger King and Family Dollar).

To this day, I still think the reason they closed Logan as a Jr. High is that they finally started to beat Roosevelt and Keith in football...

Mr. Reimer was my algebra teacher at Logan!

Also, my Spanish teacher at Logan was Joe Shuta, who now hosts the sports talk show "Leading Off" Wednesday nights on WVAM.

I had Joe as my Spanish teacher at RJHS. Here I am, many years down the road, living in the house he grew up in. My wife and I bought his dad's house last year.

I actually met my wife at RJHS, in 8th grade. Goes to show, you never know who you'll end up with.

Anybody remember Mr. Lingafelt? He died earlier this year. It's weird reading about a teacher's life outside of school in their obit.
