After reading Todds post about his band splitting up because of a fight I thought i would post this topic. How often does your band argue? About what? For how long? and how does it get resolved?
Normally every few months members of my band get into a pissing contest over something or another. Usually because one member feels he/she is contributing more then the others or because of lack of availability of someone to practice. It normally results in no communication until the next show but after we start playing everything goes back to normal.
It's kinda like a family situation where you get tired of each other and argue about things but in the end we have each others back 100%.

I can honestly say that there is no drama in both of the bands I'm in.
We communicate very well, and we compromise. We may not always agree, but we don't argue. I did play with a few dudes who liked to pull the "Im doing more than you" card and that gets old quick. Everyone makes sacrifices to be in a band. Whether it's missing a ball game to practice or missing a practice to spend time with family it's going to happen to everyone. Last week I had to leave practice a little early to talk to a guy about a job offer. There was no warning. I got a call and said "gotta go dudes". They just said "see ya next week and good luck"
When people take stuff too seriously, that's when shit gets rough.
In fedup we're just real laid back and everyone in the side effects are just blissfully ignorant.

first part of the quote describes slacker theory well. second half are words that can't be better well spoken. see, a band shouldn't be like a family in the argument sense. i think a band should be all good friends that get along with each other. your a group of people working towards the same goal. why try to fuck it all up with pointless pissing contests about "i contribute more than you" it dosn't matter in the grand scheme of things. your all onstage, you all contribute equally. if there was no bass on stage, people would know. same with lead or rhythm guitars. drums, also true, vocals need to be there, unless your liquid tension experiment.
try to shoot for the same thing with people you can stand being around, otherwise, what the fuck is the point?
Can you identify a genital wart?
In both groups i'm in, we really never have any issues. we all work together well and listen to each other. There are times we don't see eye
to eye, but everyone is willing to listen. Maybe that's why all the bands i've ever been in last a long time. years ago, i had a dude wanting more
money because he was the "front" man, but we told him that the rest of us
work just as hard, and that took care of it. The worst thing you can do is to not talk things out with your bandmates. I've been blessed over the years to play with other guys who, like me, play because we love music and just want to be good.

I've actually got along really well with my band mates in both bands I've been in.
In fact, I still get along with everyone in my first band even after we parted ways (they dropped me). I was a little pissed at first - but in the end, I understood. I don't hold it against them at all - they wanted an energy packed, attention grabbing front man to wow the crowd, and I'm still new to live performance...so, it wasn't something I could deliver - well, at least not yet...
My 2nd band, never fought either... We just got together, practiced, did a few opening shows - then personal things got in the way of a few of us and we called it quits for a while.
But, the Dirty MoJo's might be back on the prowl. Ryan found a guitarist and drummer who are looking to play the same kind of music we want to play, so we're going to set up a jam session and see what happens.
So, I'm guess I'm glad that it's been nothing but fun for me...
