does a bar have to have a license to have bands?

I know there are ascap and bmi fees, but does a bar also have to have a license from the city/state?what are the other requirements?

For live entertainment, the PLCB requires an "AP" Amusement Permit for public bars, but not private clubs. Heh, heh, heh, this is if you have vocals.

You don't need one for live instrumental music with no vocals.

ok so I was reviewing the application.
Kool Beans !I found the permit and found out its 1/5 of $700..hes agreed to pay it. :P

Also, some municipalities have licenses for that. You should check with your local municipal government to see if they require one. Most don't, but ya never know.
