The greatest band ever. Thoughts?
If you had to pick one band to be the greatest ever, who would you choose and why ?
Mine is easy. I would say hands down: PINK FLOYD - I say them because they influenced me the most, they are musical geniuses. Gilmour is the reason I picked up a guitar.

Led Zeppelin.
Page- One of the best ever.
Plant- Freakish voice, started the "front man" persona that still exists today.
Jones- Possibly the most under-rated bassist ever. Also A great keyboard player.
Bonham- Brutal, pounding drums.
Metal, hard rock, blues, indy, they could do it all.

I guess they were a cover band?
Aside from that...Kansas. I never saw another band that could quite do what they could do.

The greatest bands ever. Thoughts?
Wow! So many to chose from. Its hard for me to say who is actually my favorite. Being a child of the 70s and 80s I switched from genere to genere there for awhile with the exception of disco. HATED IT!
But I would have to say that bands like Thin Lizzy, GFR, Kiss, Sabbath, Zeppelin are among the top ones in my book

Beatles. They had the most successful songwriting team in history, transcendent musical talent in any genre they tried, the first worldwide marketing strategy, and across-the-board appeal. A recent poll has them as the only musical act still ranked in the top 5 with EVERY age group, despite having disbanded nearly 40 years ago.
Pretty much all my rock heroes admit to being heavily influenced by the Beatles, and the standard answer to the interview question, "When did you decide to pursue rock music as a career?" is, "When I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show."
They started out paying dues in small clubs, too, instead of being put together by Simon Cowell, which gains cred points from me.
There will never be another act to outdo the Beatles. Music is too factionalized, and careers are no longer cultivated by the music business... you do your singles, get your sales, and get out.
Like the others, I can't say they're my favorite band, but their impact is undeniable. Without the Beatles, Jimmy Page would still be playing R&B.--->JMS

The beatles and Led Zepplin are not amongst my favorites, but they were very influential none the less. If you are going to add influential, you could add Elvis, Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, Jimmy Hendrix, Michael Jackson, EVH, and long list of others to that list as well. When you say influential I think of the innovators - They are the ones who started the genre and they are the ones who are still mimicked today.

i agree this could be debated on and on, but are the bands mentioned truly the greatest or are they the most inspirational bands of all time. I mean the beatles sold more records then the band mentioned strung out but strung out is more talented. I do enjoy reading the opinions thonakedtwister wrote:I'm with RTD on this one. The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.
