So, I thought this was pretty cool. Friday I had my newly built strat leaning against my filing cabinet in my office. One of our vendors came in, and he saw the guitar and was like ya know Kayla I used to play guitar back in the sixties. He told me a few stories, told me about some bands back in the day and then he was on his way. Today, the same guy comes in all proud and says ya know Kayla, I went and bought myself a new guitar this weekend. Ha! How cool! Had I not had my strat layin in here, maybe he’d have never picked one back up again, who knows. Thought it was cool that I kinda “inspired” him to start playin again!
I just wonder how many people we affect on a daily basis. The people I work with, think its absolutely awesome that I play guitar. And more than once a day I get this, hey Kayla you think you can play this song. Or the, you should learn this song. Ha …. The other day I was asked, can you play dueling banjos, and with a hillbillyish grin, I proudly proclaimed, you bet your sweet ass I can! Haha.
Anyone else got any stories? I'm sure there are some good ones out there. lets hear em.

A similar story happened to me in State College on Wednesday night.
I went to see the band Table Ten, performing at Bar Bleu. It wasn't crowded; a lot of people were upstairs in the Beulah's part of the establishment, watching Game One of the World Series. But a few fans strayed downstairs into the band room to see Table Ten perform.
I was sitting alone at a table in the center of the room, with notepad, pen, and camera on the table. As sometimes happens when I'm in State College, I get curious student-types asking me what I'm up to with the notepad and camera. One guy came over and started chatting with me this night. When I told him that I wrote for a music publication, his eyes grew real big, and he told me he was a senior majoring in journalism, and he dreams of becoming a music writer and doing what I do, writing about bands and music. He and I chatted for at least an hour; he was telling me about his passion for live music, and said he wished he would have been born decades earlier so he could experience names like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin when they were in their prime. He asked me questions about my career, and I shared some experiences and suggestions with him. Hopefully just by my showing up on this night and engaging this person in conversation, I helped somebody along toward a career as a music writer, or even just a writer in general.
