in the day all weddings had live bands . then dj's dominated the wedding scene. Now it seems live bands are back in style we have done and are going to do more weddings this year for young couples than we have for 10 years. They are really fun ,get to eat and drink for free and the widows and divorcees are an added extra jerry c

yea those weddings are great i played in a polka band 17 years.
free eats and drinks and decent pay. plus all the drunk brides maid.

yeah well the brides maids are a little young these days but their grand mothers are looking better and better. amazing though how much the young people like the oldies and classics. they know all the words and they request more songs than we can possibly do in three or 4 hours.

The reason for the liking of the oldies is because a majority of the new music sucks...

music from the 90's till now has just not been new and exciting like the golden age of rock 1964 to 75. with so many of the greatest artists of all time coming onto the scene.

you are right bassist. this speaks to a major cultural phenonenom never seen in american art and muisc. it is the equivalant of people like myself or yourself [ i don't know how old you are] to know the words and enjoying and prefering music of the 1920's over music of my own era[ in this case the 60's and 70's . it really is a very deep subject and it would be fun to discuss the many reasons it has happened. it's not only about the music of the 90's and today it does have a lot to do with demographics of the country , the baby boom, desperartion as opposed to spontanaity on the part of music companies and producers and many more factors . you seem to recognize the complexities of the subject. thanks for the reply jerry c

yeah all of the above is true and we didn't mention the fact that they actually pay 4 to 5 time s as much as a a bar gig.
