Don't you love money begging week? That is the only time they show anything that people would be interested in ..
[edit] I am watching this and loving it. Two greats together at one time is a good thing [/edit]

I watched it and loved it, even the PBS begging was cool, cause Robert Cray was there as well. Just a couple obeservations...
-I loved the playing, but Albert's guitar would just not stay in tune, and it was sometimes painful to listen to.
-I never realized how unique Albert's setup is. He's a lefty guitarist, playing a Gibson Left-Handed V that is strung right handed. His top string is where his bottom string should be. Kind of mind-blowing, to think how he plays like that, literally backwards from everyone else.

back then it wasn't to uncommon to find old blues players that played that way cause they adapted to whatever they could get they're hands on. you would think listening to alberts playing he'd kind of be easy to replicate,( to some degree) but because of his set-up (upside down and backwards) its actually hard to master because hes bending strings down that normaly you would bend up. those big meaty hands yanking down on those strings, its nothing for albert to bend a note stepand a half to 2 steps. i only know of one person that plays that way these days; Doyle Bramhall II . Its fascinating to watch these types of players and how theyve adapted, like playing chords and all the strumming is up-strokes. just about everything about that is wierd...but totally unique and mind-boggling to try to figure out.....unless you got some good tabs...ha.ToonaRockGuy wrote:I watched it and loved it, even the PBS begging was cool, cause Robert Cray was there as well. HENDRIX DID NOT PLAY UPSIDE DOWN AND BACKWARDS. He was just a lefty who usually played right handed guitars. He just switched the strings around on right handed guitars. he was just a lefty. left handed guitars were'nt real common back in the day so you just strung'em up different. Albert could pick up any right handed guitar and throw down, if you handed jimi a right handed guitar he'd be scratchin his head while he was lookin for some lighter fluid cuz he wouldn't be able to play it.
