Hmm... To buy or not to buy?

I'm debating on buying this. I would really like something cool like this to experiment with and just have fun with, but am still thinking. What does everyone think?

It's a Rogue, so I wouldn't expect great quality; but it could be hella fun. There was a time when every recording artist had sitar on their cuts and it kind of became cliche. Now, I think it would be cool to bring a little sitar back.

Type O used one on a song ;)
"Cant Lose You" has a band friend (Paul Bento) playing the sitar.

Yeah I really dig how the Beatles use the sound on songs like Norweigen Wood, Within You Without You and Tomorrow Never Knows... stuff like that. It sounds really sweet so I just did some looking around at stuff and found this. It seems like a fairly decent price for that.

Our guitar player bought an electric sitar 10 years ago. Pretty cool!

That is cool looking. The design reminds me of an Ovation Preacher.

Well this is weird. I've been searching for this on musiciansfriend and it kept saying, we could not find any matches for your search. So I clicked this link and it says it's just been discontinued.

I just tried the link again and it works.

I just did a search on Guitar Center for it, there is nothing showing up. You would think there would be, they are owned by the same company.

Yeah I originally tried the link on my iPod touch and it said that. Then I saw that this one worked. But I also searched a bunch of stuff on MF and found nothing. Weird.

Hmmm. Well that sucks. I'll have to look for it elsewhere. I was actually really thinking about it.

Yeah I got the links to work but MF says it has been discontinued and Amazon says it is "currently unavailable"...

yeah, eBay usually has one or two. I have to say, I've been happy with every Rogue purchase I ever made, but I kept my expectations realistic. My first dobro was a Rogue, and believe it or not, it sits right up there next to my Regal, soundwise. Build quality, not so much, but it's better than I assumed, and an excellent starter. I've played through a surprising Rogue 2x12 solid-state amp, it's similar to the Fender with the same features. I've also heard really rave reviews of a certain Rogue Herringbone acoustic guitar, though I haven't heard it yet. I have played the Rogue A-model mandolin... actually quite nice for the student, when you find out they sometimes sell for $40 brand new!
I'd take the chance on the sitar.

The guitar I have now, and have had for the past ten years is a rogue strat style. I am going to be giving that to my daughter when I my PRS arrives.

Thanks for the good input everyone! :) It's certainly helping me out. I think I probably will save up for this... It sounds like it would be well worth it.

Also, Songsmith, I think it's funny that you mention Rogue's mandolins as I saw that too and have sorta been considering one of them as well. Something cheap but decent like that would be great for me as someone inexperienced with mandolins.

It's hard to go wrong for that price. You'll have to tweak it a bit, maybe... I've had a few low-end mandos, and I usually file the sharp edges off the bridge so it's easier on the picking hand, and always restring, what usually comes with them shouldn't even be called strings.
If you want to amplify, I have a secret weapon pickup: the K&K Little Big Shot, which eBays for around $40 as well. The owner of K&K sent me a tip that works VERY well...wedge the coin-sized pickup between the top and base parts of the floating rosewood bridge, using a guitar pick as a shim. It doubles the perceived output level, and I could NOT get it to feed back, even when playing with a full rock band. Works really, really well.

Well I went with an A-model Rogue Mando for 50 bucks. It's supposed to be here Tuesday, I'm pumped! :D

Remember to pop into a local shop and get real strings for it ASAP. It'll make a huge difference in the tone, I promise. The ones they use are laughable. I'm not sure what the Chinese think we want from strings, but what they make, ain't it!
