Has anyone else done this????

Post by Dragan Kalasa »

For the longest time I couldn't stand the band Norma Jean. To me, a metal head, I thought this was just noise. Now probably about 5 years later, I picked up their new album "Meridonial" and I love the album. I then decided to buy some of their older ones and really, really listened to them and now I have a newfound love for these guys.

Now I know this is more of a metal reference but has anyone else listened to a band for a first time and was like "Eh..." or just all out disliked them then later have a new affection for them??

I actually kind of feel bad, and sometimes feel like I should send them apology email/letter...lol.

When I first heard Filter I couldn't stand them. It was on the radio; overcompressed and overEQd. Then a friend played me an album at his apartment and I could actually hear what was going on. I think radio ruins a lot of good music.

Saxon, and Accept, both for the same reason: the singer's voice. They're not meant to sell records to the little girls, they don't sound pretty, EVER. Once I got past the idea that everything has to be pleasant and sweet, I became huge fans of both bands.

Filter was another one that I was like yuck, and now it's one of my all time favorite bands. Short Bus and The Amalgamut are excellent.

I have a couple of these...

Sepultura. I first heard one of their early albums, and didn't dig the style or the production. But hearing Chaos A.D. and Roots a few years later caused me to do a 180 on them, and both of those albums were big factors in enabling me to appreciate some of today's "vo-kill"-styled metal.

Southern Culture On The Skids. I thought they were a bad joke at first and didn't "get" their hit "Camel Walk." But seeing their live show converted me, and now they're probably in third place for the major band/artist I've seen the most in concert, next to Ozzy and Queensryche.

I'm glad to see that others are into the awesomeness that is Filter. I just listened to Welcome to the Fold the other day. What a cool tune.

There are bands that I used to not be into, but really got into later on. Actually, many of my all time favorite albums were recordings that took me a while to warm up to.

However, Radiohead is one band that I've tried to like but just can't. I know they get all kinds of artistic accolades, but they just don't do anything for me. :?
