This is a sad story. I used to have his Greatest Hits album on vinyl.

Real sad, not uncommon for artists to sign bad deals and lose royalty income. here's a real intense Woodstock performance:

He's been known to have "issues" his whole career. He used to buy lavish custom-made cars, then give them away to people he hardly knew. He's always been erratic at best, and I think that's what people took advantage of.
I saw his van... it's actually not bad, it's a modern Class B high-top, not luxurious, but better than sleeping in the street. Vandwelling has become very popular over the last few years, I see them almost every time I leave this area. Most vandwellers are retirees who sold their house to buy a big RV, then the recession hit. Driving a big Class A diesel-pusher is a pain, too, so they downsize to a van. You can stay in Walmart parking lots and Pilot stations for free, and they go from campground to campground, living on SocSec, pensions, and work-camping at places like Amazon and the Bureau of Land Management. I found them through a vandwelling group online. It's all very romantic, but only practical if you're in perfect health.
I'm not saying that's Sly's situation, but he's not completely homeless. The article I read said he still records in the van, on laptop, and he's looking for writing/arranging work. He's a real talent, I bet he gets a deal out of the publicity blitz yesterday.

Geez, the FBI and hit men after him? Bummer.

He was definitely a talented guy. However, when you give your shit away and do a bunch of drugs, you'll most likely end up homeless and paranoid....the guy that "did him dirty" probably just did the same thing that all record companies do. Just my .02 centavos.
