Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the January 8 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!
As our previous two programs featured holiday season specials, new recordings from the area music scene piled up in the program's mailboxes, so we spent this week's program getting caught up with the new releases! We heard plenty of new music, including new songs from The Badlees, Midnight Lights, Hot Fudge Mondaes, Alyssa Hankey, Coltt Winter Lepley, Samantha Press, Pocono Jones & the Bear, Black Ridge, Don Hughes, Jakob Vladimir, Ma'aM and Treaties. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1999 song from Pittsburgh's Felony In Progress from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback" and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from New York City heavy rockers Brand Of Julez! (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 010823.)

In Local Music News...
Johnstown-based heavy rockers The Heathen Parade opened the New Year with some news, reporting that Chad Straw is taking over bass duties in the group, replacing Jay Snider. It will be the first time Chad and his brother, lead guitarist and singer Jason Straw, have worked together since their earlier band, The Embalmed. The Heathen Parade will also be releasing new music during the upcoming year, with the first song being issued this coming Friday the 13th.
An Altoona native now based in Pittsburgh, musician and composer Don Hughes has just released two new albums. One is his newest original music album, called Universal Language, which features seven original compositions and four covers. The other album, called The Gaming Jukebox, is a novelty release featuring Don’s renditions of 28 different pieces of music from Nintendo video games. Don will be a guest on the “Homegrown Rocker to discuss both albums on March 12.
An area venue that hosted live music during the past 11 years is switching owners. The Mosscreek Bar & Grill near Northern Cambria closed its doors on New Year’s Eve, and will reopen under new ownership on Monday (January 9).
Popular local 80s hair band rockers Hair Force One have announced that one of their longtime members is stepping away. Co-lead guitarist Michael J. Coxx is retiring from performing live. He will continue to perform with Hair Force One until a replacement is found. Hair Force One is actively searching for that replacement; interested candidates can contact the group via Facebook Messenger.
The area music scene was saddened recently by the passing of longtime local country artist Bill Ross, Jr., who passed away on December 23 at age 77. Bill was half of the popular country duo Bill & Roy, teaming with Roy Hanna, Jr., who passed in 2011. The pair played around the area and region, opened for national acts, traveled coast to coast and even performed in parts of Europe. They recorded in Nashville, issuing at least one 45 rpm record in 1989, and a full length CD, Just 4 Fun in 1991.
