HOMEGROWN ROCKER 4/27/25 (BUFFALO ROSE)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 27 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

This week, we spoke via phone with our musical guests, singers Margot Jezerc and Lucy Clabby from Pittsburgh-based Americana and folk-rooted performers Buffalo Rose! Margot and Lucy discussed their band and its history, along with their music, creative process, live show and their collaborations with famed folk artist Tom Paxton – plus talked about their upcoming May 2 concert at the Indiana Theater in downtown Indiana! And we heard some of their recorded music as well! We also debuted new songs from Sterling Koch, Jason Bolinger, Sourmash and Caleb J. Murphy (with Jason Gamble); updated “Local Music News” and dug out a 2016 song from Somerset’s The Laurel for this week’s “Local Music Flashback!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 042725.)

Entries are currently being accepted for the 2025 Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest (PHSC). A nonprofit event, it is intended to provide a venue for amateur songwriters to display their art while fostering appreciation and study of Pennsylvania Heritage. The submitted songs must have a Pennsylvania namesake, theme or reference. Three winning entries are selected each year, with the awards ceremony taking place at the annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival, which takes place June 19 through 21 at the Quiet Oaks Campground near Cross Fork. Winners will receive cash prizes of $300 for 1st place, $200 for second and $100 for third place; and will also receive Smoked Country Jam festival passes and get to perform their winning songs onstage. The entry deadline is May 15, and there is a $25 entry fee per song with a limit of two per songwriter.
