Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the May 18 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!
Musical guests returned for this week's program, as we welcomed area singers and songwriters James Grove and Alea Reid into our studio! Both were present to discuss their own music and perform some songs live; and James also spearheads the new "Acoustic Altoona" musical showcase series, which will take place periodically in the ArtsAltoona Center "Grotto" space. (The next showcase happens on Wednesday, May 28 at 7 p.m., and features Alea, Rumble & Scream and Sasha Damon Frost.) We also introduced some new songs from Antonio Andrade and the Chris Bell Band, plus updated "Local Music News" and dug a 1998 song from Swampwater Ink from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. A popular Delaware and southeastern PA singer and songwriter sadly passed away on Wednesday. Christine Havrilla, who had been a frequent performer for several years at the Central PA Festival of the Arts in State College, passed after a battle with cancer. She was 55. She had performed as a solo artist, and in more recent yars fronted her band Christine Havrilla and Gypsy Fuzz. A sold-out benefit concert to help Christine with her medical expenses took place earlier today at the Milton Theatre in Christine's hometown of Milton, Delaware; proceeds will now benefit her surviving wife, Brooke.
