Alright, hopefully I don't have too many options. I tried this a few weeks ago, but couldn't post because I had too many. I tried to represent all of the major brands. Also, I picked companies that made both heads and cabs or combos. There are a lot of bass cabinet companies out there who don't make heads. I tried to stay away from the boutique stuff too, since this is probably more representative of what people are using. But if you dig your Phil Jones or Glockenklang rig, let us know. Wink

Anyways, everyone knows that I'm partial to the Eden/SWR/Aguilar trifecta. I've always thought, though, that one of the most underrated setups is a G-K head through a Hartke cabinet.

p.s. Just so I'm not accused of name dropping, I've played every brand on the poll with the exception of Ashdown; though I dig catch a jazz group at Bar Bleu in State College this Friday, and the bass player was using an Ashdown combo. It sounded sweet, and he was a killer player.

With that said, vote and let us know what amps, cabs, and combos you dig and why.

man, I've been waiting for this poll to materialize ever since the guitar poll was put up, and now that its here, I just can't think of any reason to vote for one particular company over another.

I've always felt you can get very usable tones out of a Peavey amp. I've played many different ones and I've never been let down. I've never been blown away either, but still, very nice.

I've also got an Ashdown Electric Blue 112 combo, really nice sound, especially for the price.

There's a short list of amps I intend to try out in the near future, all are all-tube.

Traynor YBA-200
Peavey VB-2 (I don't think this is actually out yet)
Fender Bassman 300

All of these are in the hope of getting the tone of the Orange AD200, only with a little more flexibility, and without the $2000 price.

I'm telling you, the Fender 300 (formely the Sunn 300T) is a bad arse amp.

Still Ampeg although I love my Ashdown RPM-1. I've played a bunch of different Ampeg pre's and heads over the years. The best of them all was my 70's V4-B...which I SOLD! Rolling Eyes If anyone has one to sell let me know.

I'm a little upset that SLM sold Ampeg to LOUD and moved production overseas - and I probably would never buy an import Ampeg - but they still have the best tone to my ears.

Aguilar all the way. I'm still kicking myself for selling my DB750. That was a stupid move on my part. The DB750 and GS4x10 with my Lakland was the ultimate bass tone for me. I just wasn't playing bass that much at the time so I sold it.

Ashdown heads are really nice, but their cabs leave a little to be desired. I had a set up that was an Ashdown MAG 400 head on an SWR 2x10 and 1x15 and it was one of my favorite rigs. I also ran the Ashdown head with an Ampeg 6x10 with excellent results.

I've been using Aguilar S series 4x10s for over two years now. The S series came out after the GS series and before the DB series. They're now discontinued, because they didn't sell up to Dave and Dave's expectations.

I've seriously been thinking about getting a DB750 to go with a head unit - I'm currently using a pre/power amp setup - and for a more colored tone. Even used, I'm looking at about a thousand dollar investment, so I'm not running out tomorrow to get one. When it looks like I have some disposable capital, I may pick one up.

Markbass for me! Very different company very cool products! Only downside is they're only available in the USA at Guitar Center! Loud, Lightweight and fairly inexpensive! Plus they're Black and Gold! Woo Hoo!

I'd go with the 6x10 personally. I played every Ampeg cab at Guitar Center and for a stand alone cab, the 6x10 was the loudest and clearest with the best bottom end.

Yeah I was actually leaning towards that just so I could save room as opposed to an 8x10.

That's also an excellent point. I had an Ampeg 6x10 and I could get it easily into the backseat of my Focus sedan that I had at the time.

I played through one of the SVT reissue 8x10s this past summer and I was very impressed. It had a very round high-end as opposed to the sharper high-end that you would get from a horn-loaded cab and was very punchy. I've never been an Ampeg guy, but I really wouldn't mind having one of those if I came across it for the right price.
