Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 1 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

After guests and specials dominated the program during the month of March, it was time to get caught up with the mail. So we emptied the show's mailboxes this week to see what new recordings have arrived, and we introduced lots of new music on this week's program! We debuted new songs from Eric Val, The Roof, MFG, One of the Bigs, The Vics, Jonah Whale, Jakob's Ferry Stragglers, The Lampshades, Forsaken By Society and Behind the Grey. We also updated "Local Music News" (albeit with a bit of an April Fool's Day touch), dug a 1999 tune by Ivet from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a number from Syracuse, New York's Spring Street Family, and reviewed Lizzie & the Yeehaw Gang's Road to Home CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "Halfway Man"
YOUNG LUNGS - "Reality"
ERIC VAL - "Tragedy"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Melancholia"
THE ROOF - "No Fool"
LENINA CROWNE - "Morse Code"
MFG - "Is There Life After Rock?"
PURE CANE SUGAR - "Box N'Nails"
ONE OF THE BIGS - "Out of Dodge"
CHRIS BELL 100% BLUES - "Shantytown"
THE VICS - "Put a Little Pepper on It"

HOUR TWO:

ANDY MOWATT'S STEELY JAM - "Jello Molds"
JONAH WHALE - "Dance"
JAKOB'S FERRY STRAGGLERS - "Tumbleweed"
LIZZIE & THE YEEHAW GANG - "Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms"
THE LAMPSHADES - "Hope on a Rope"
IVET - "Soldier" (1999, Local Music Flashback)
SPRING STREET FAMILY - "Putting the Biscuits in the Basket" (Across State Lines)
ONE ADAM 12 - "Stepping Out"
FORSAKEN BY SOCIETY - "Valley Boys"
HATE GRENADE - "Burn"
BEHIND THE GREY - "Overcome"
PSYCHO PROPHECY - "Shoot the Devil"

On our next program, we will have guests in the studio, as members of State College/Altoona-based rock group The Roof pay us a visit! We'll meet the band members and learn The Roof's story, and we'll hear their music, including several songs performed live in the Qwik studio! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Chris Bell 100% Blues' Baptized By the Blues CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

APR. 22 - Shattered
MAY 13 - Silver Screen
MAY 20 - Tim Woods Band
MAY 27 - Memorial Day Special

In Local Music News...

In a surprise development, popular area bluegrassers Mama Corn have announced a slight alteration to their name, as well as a new focus for their sound. The group will change the spelling of the 'Corn' part of their name to 'Korn,' and have decided to focus on performing bluegrass adaptations of songs from the heavy nu-metal band Korn. The group plans to record a few of their "Korn-grass" adaptations for an upcoming EP, and expect to debut their bluegrass version of "Freak on a Leash" during the upcoming Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival in mid-June.

Area hair-band rockers Hair Force One have also decided on a name change and new musical focus. Following their successful Easter Eve show at Altoona's Bavarian Aid Society, the group has decided to focus all their energies toward performing amped-up Easter-themed concerts. They will change their name to HARE Force One, and play only on Easter weekends in the future, where they will deck out in punk bunny outfits and play hair-metal takes on Easter song favorites like "Here Comes Peter Cottontail," "The Way the Bunny Hops" and more.

And Johnstown's Inside Out has announced that work is steadily progressing on their next studio album, which follows up their 2014 CD Unbreakable. However, the group added that in keeping with their tradition, they are not planning to issue the album until sometime in the year 2050, marking a 36-year gap following Unbreakable, which itself followed an 18-year gap between albums. According to singer and guitarist Tim Frick, the group wants to make sure all the new songs are extremely well stage-tested.

APRIL FOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL!!!!! Yes, you have been pranked on the April 1 edition of the "Homegrown Rocker." Now, let's reboot "Local Music News" and find out what's really happening...

Major recording artists Waka Flocka and New Politics will headline the second annual "Ivyside Off the Rails" Glow On concert, happening at Altoona's Railroaders Museum on Sunday, April 22. The doors will open at 6 p.m., with the concert beginning at 7 p.m. Local rock group The Roof will kick off the show. Admission will be $10 for Penn State students, and $20 for general admission. The concert is presented by Penn State Altoona's Campus Activities Board.

Meanwhile, national artists Logic, Daya, Judah & the Lions and Mick Jenkins are among the performers during Penn State's annual "Movin' On" Festival on Friday, April 27 at the university's Intramural Fields. Opening will be local favorites Lenina Crowne.

The Allegheny Ukulele Kollective will present their fifth annual Ukulele Soiree on April 20-22 at Laurel Lodge near Altoona, featuring ukulele workshops, jam sessions, open mics and guest performers including Sarah Meisel, Craig Chee, Danielle Ate the Sandwich, Jim D'Ville, Mim of Mim's Ukes and more. Tickets are already sold out for this year's event.

And after 36 years of serving the state's music community, the owners of Pennsylvania Musician Magazine will be stepping away from publishing the magazine later this year. According to her message in the April edition, editor Robin Noll cited age and wanting to concentrate more energies toward their community sister publication Shopper's Remedy. Robin expressed the interest to sell the publication to "...someone else who has a desire to promote and cover the great music scene throughout Pennsylvania." Pending any sale of the magazine to new owners, the magazine's finale will be the May issue.
