Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 22 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we met up with our band guests, Greensburg-based hard rockers Shattered, in an interview conducted at western PA's ever-popular Dean's Diner near Blairsville! We met the band members and learned Shattered's story, and spotlighted songs from the group's latest CD, Blackout Sessions! Along the way, we debuted a new song from Phobos Anomaly, updated "Local Music News," dug out a 2008 tune by Appalachian Translator from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Tukurpa's Hidden Broken Pieces CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FYRE - "Madness"
DOCTOR SMOKE - "The Willow"
SHATTERED - "Reckoning"
PHOBOS ANOMALY - "Sisyphus"
SHATTERED - "Hell Bent"
AFTER THE FALL - "My Confession"
SHATTERED - "Ridicule"
GUN METAL GRAY - "We Are One"

HOUR TWO:

SMALL TOWN HORROR SHOW - "Storm of the Century"
SMALL TOWN TITANS - "Me Myself and Monster"

TUKURPA - "Sacrifice"
SHATTERED - "Love Hate Obsession"
APPALACHIAN TRANSLATOR - "False Alarm" (2008, Local Music Flashback)
SHATTERED - "These Gates"

We will revisit our mailboxes for our next program, and catch up with more new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks - guaranteeing lots of new tunes and maximum local and regional music! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Nag Champions Mystery Band's Earthworks CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

As mentioned during previous weeks, the ArtsAltoona organization is presenting the StART Here Block Party, a combination arts and beautification project, on Saturday, April 28, in the Juniata section of Altoona. ArtsAltoona, partnering organizations, neighborhood businesses, artists, musicians and volunteers will converge for a block party to celebrate creativity and community spirit. The event will take place from noon to 6 p.m. along North 4th Avenue in Juniata. For more information, visit the website www.starthereblaircounty.com.

The bands have been announced for next month's 11th annual Pints For Pets Brewfest. Walkney, Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band, The Chrome Hearts and Tree will be the performing groups during the event's two sessions, as attendees sample craft beers from more than 90 breweries from across the country and around the world. The annual brewfest fundraiser for the Central PA Humane Society takes place on Saturday, May 12, at People's Natural Gas Field in Altoona. The first session runs from 1 to 4 p.m., and the second session will run from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the event's website, www.pintsforpets.com.

Several area bands are ready to release new music. State College's Natascha & the Spy Boys are about to unveil their first full-length CD. The album, called ...That's the Hardest Part, will be unveiled at a CD release party on Saturday night, April 28, at Webster's Bookstore and Cafe in State College.

Meanwhile, northern Cambria County-based hard rock group Negan is set to release their first CD. The group will unveil their debut EP, called Burnt Pages, during a CD release party on May 5 at the Hastings VFW in Hastings. The event will feature performances from Negan, along with guest bands Iron Wolf and Darkness On The Radio.

After laying low for the past year or so, Altoona-based alternative rockers Post Season have announced that they will be unveiling some new original music shortly, and that they have been spending the past year working on that new music and their personal lives.
