Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 29 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we revisited the mailboxes to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, and debuted lots of new music! Logging first "Homegrown Rocker" airtime were new tunes from Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors, M.F.G., Rodeo Serenade, Jiggley Jones, Jessica Graae, The Hook, Deluded Youth and Gryla! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug out a 2000 tune by Spinebelt from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Lansing, Michigan-based rockers The Devil's Cut, and reviewed Nag Champions Mystery Band's Earthworks CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

In Local Music News...

Some good news regarding a situation we informed you of a few weeks ago...Weeks after it was announced that long-running local and regional music publication Pennsylvania Musician Magazine was going to cease operations after the upcoming May issue, the magazine has been spared. Josh Noll, the son of the magazine's founding couple, Whitey and Robin Noll, stepped up to take over operation of the publication this past week, beginning with the June issue. In an announcement from his sister, PA Musician columnist Rachel Rocks, Josh did not want to see his parents' legacy come to an end, and so he decided to step up to keep the magazine going.

The entertainment lineup has been announced for next month's 51st annual Blair County Arts Festival, which will happen May 19 and 20 at Penn State Altoona. Among entertainers performing on Saturday the 19th will be Stormy, Ride the Song, Jay Vonada Jazz Quartet, Stephen Johnopolos Trio, Camara Drum & Dance, Born & the Beanstalk and the Michael Christopher Band. Sunday the 19th's performers will include the Dave Villani Trio, R2B2, Lucia Valentine and the Altoona Brass Collective. Admission to the festival is free, and donations will be accepted for parking.
