Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 23 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 FM) in Altoona and Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via both stations' websites.

We returned to the mailboxes on this program to explore new recordings that have arrived in recent days, and we debuted some new music! We introduced new songs from Don Hughes, Maleena, Ryan Clark, Nag Champions, Roc MD and 9 Stitch Method! We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1996 tune by western PA rockers Beg For Mercy from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Braden McDannell's East & West CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FADED FLOWERS - "Stay"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Make"
DON HUGHES - "Adventure Calling"
KALI MA & THE GARLAND OF ARMS - "Star Eye"
MALEENA - "On The Run"
DAVE NICHOLS - "I Wanna Be Free"
RYAN CLARK - "The Devil's Out to Get Me"
BLACK WATER GREED - "21 Shells Say Goodbye"
THE DEAD END STREETS - "The Time Has Come"
D-BO - "I Can't Breathe"
NAG CHAMPIONS - "Brown River Blues" (performed live 11/23/19 at "Thanks for Giving" Festival, Tipton)

HOUR TWO:

WILLOW HILL - "Don't Let the Door Hit Ya"
ON THE BRINK - "The Longest Day"
MYCENEA WORLEY - "9 Lives"
BRADEN McDANNELL - "Honest Lies"
ROC MD - "Weight of the World"
BEG FOR MERCY - "The Writing" (1996, Local Music Flashback)

WHITE WITCH - "Log Splitter"
WRATH OF TYPHON - "Fate"
HATE GRENADE - "Critical"
9 STITCH METHOD - "Ether"
JAKOB VLADIMIR - "Minefield"

We'll continue to check out more new local and regional recordings on our next program, and will premiere lots of new songs! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear a tune from an independent band or artist from outside of PA, and review On The Brink's Visual Empathy CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Hear the "Homegrown Rocker" this Sunday night (August 30) on Q94 Classic Rock (94.3 on your FM dial, or online at www.q94classicrock.com) and 105.9 Qwik Rock (105.9 on your FM dial, or online at www.1059qwikrock.com)!

In Local Music News...

The Nag Champions, Rivot and other area musicians will be performing at the “End of Summer Jam” event, happening next Saturday, August 29, at Patton Recreation Park in Patton. That event kicks off at 2 p.m. Admission is free, and any funds raised will benefit Patton Recreation Park.

Pittsburgh area-based singer and songwriter Alyssa Hankey has signed a production deal with music production company CommSounds, operated by producer and engineer Matt Collen. Alyssa will be recording new music with CommSounds this fall.

And sad news this past week with the passing of Greg Shiley, the owner and operator of popular outdoor concert venue Shiley’s Acres in Inwood, West Virginia. Greg died on Wednesday from complications after heart surgery. He founded the Shiley’s Acres venue in 1976, and reopened it in the summer of 2012 following an 18-year hiatus. Shiley’s Acres has hosted numerous local, regional and national recording acts over the years, including the Charlie Daniels Band, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Kix, Buckcherry, Theory of a Deadman, Papa Roach, Hellyeah and more.
