Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 14 edition of "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

Thanks for our band guests this week, Pittsburgh's Radio 45 (www.radio45.net/rock/), for setting the milestone of being the first band ever to be interviewed on this program via Zoom! Thanks to the band for also sharing their story, mission, creative process and live show approach - and we heard some songs from their soon-to-be-released EP Transcendence! And read about Radio 45 in the May issue of PA Musician Magazine, as they are on this month's cover! We also introduced new songs by Medusa's Disco, Chip & the Charge Ups and Roc MD, updated "Local Music News," dug into Radio 45 drummer Mark Wesesky's past for a 1999 song by Felony In Progress for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed StoneMan's Heartbreaks debut album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94's website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on "The Professor's Classroom," and then scroll down to "Homegrown Rocker Podcast" and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 051423.)

Here is this week's playlist:

More band guests visit our next program, as Altoona-based indie rock adventurers Crazed Visions will be our guests! We'll meet the members and learn their story, and discuss their creative process and live show - and we'll play songs off the group's debut album, Love War! We'll also update "Local Music News," pull a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Memory Collector's Fear Dreams album in "The Professor's CD Corner!" In Local Music News...

After a 45-year career, Maryland hard rockers Kix have announced that the last 11 dates of their spring-summer tour will be their last, and the group will be stepping aside. Singer Steve Whiteman made the announcement during Kix's headlining performance at last weekend's M3 Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Steve cited his own health concerns, as well as the health of drummer Jimmy Chalfant, who suffered a cardiac arrest onstage during a concert in November, as primary factors in the decision. Kix's final show will happen on September 17 at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Closer to central PA, State College favorites Pure Cane Sugar have announced that after nearly 20 years, they will be stepping away from steady live performing. The group will continue to play out their regular performance schedule through July, and then will limit their live performing to special performances from time to time. Pure Cane Sugar's remaining shows include their annual Memorial Day performance on the diamond in downtown Boalsburg, and mid-July performances at both the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in downtown State College and the People's Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts at Grange Park in Centre Hall. The group said that a special fall show will soon be announced.

And we report sad news from the western PA music scene with the passing of Joe Serian. The longtime lead singer for Punxsutawney/Indiana-based classic rockers Down to the Wire, Joe passed away on Monday (May 8) at age 70 after battling heart issues. Joe was known for his incredible, high-ranging voice and upbeat stage personality, and friends and colleagues recalled his abilities to sing Steve Perry-era Journey and the song that became a favorite of Down to the Wire performances, Head East's “Never Been Any Reason.”

That's a look at “Local Music News.” Bands and artists with news items to report on the program may email their information to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
