Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 11 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

What a busy and crazy show this week! First, thanks to our guests, Indiana-based rockers Solegion (www.myspace.com/solegion) for coming in to share their music and thoughts on their music, career, live show and more. We heard several songs the group has recorded; they plan to issue a new EP later this summer. We also aired a prerecorded interview with Missy Miller of Fast Trackers Relay For Life (www.fasttrackersrelayforlife.com), who is planning two big benefit concerts in coming weeks in Huntingdon County. Missy gave us the lowdown on the Relay For Life Band Jam, which happens next Saturday, June 17 at the Shade Gap Picnic Grounds, and features performances from Brianna Sheeder, Gift of the Hour, Doug Forshey, .00 Buck, Faded, SOS, Scream, The Lakota Band and Spitshine; she also gave us details about the Harpers Memorial Park Rockfest taking place July 8 at the Shade Gap Picnic Grounds, featuring Warrant, Spitshine, Scream and SOS.

In addition, it was a “Harley Qualification Weekend” on Q94, so many listeners were tuned in to the show and poised to pounce on their phones to call in to qualify for Q94’s 2006 Harley Davidson Street Bob motorcycle, being given away next Saturday, June 17 at Burgi’s Roundhouse. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed the latest album by Pittsburgh’s Icarus Witch, Capture The Magic, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be viewed in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com. And on top of all of that, we debuted new tunes from The Fred Garvin Project and Shades Of June.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SOUND DRIVEN – “Antelopium”
SILVER SUNDAY – “I Know”
SOLEGION – “Solitary Prayer”
FRED GARVIN PROJECT – “Wild Crazy Nights”
SOLEGION – “Defeating My Weakness”

Next Sunday night, it’s our Father’s Day tradition, the “Fathers and Sons/Daughters of Local Music” special! We’ll spotlight the parents of the area music scene, along with their talented kids! Dads, moms, sons and daughters of the area music scene will be heard from, and we’ll have a father and son in the studio – Greg Burley of Rock and Rye, and his son, Dustin Burley, of Plazma! The “Fathers and Sons/Daughters of Local Music” special edition of the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

As you may have recently heard, Harrisburg-based national recording group Fuel offered their lead singer opening to former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry. After mulling the offer over, Daughtry has given his answer to Fuel, and he has turned down their offer. So Fuel continues to look for their replacement for Brett Scallions, who left the group earlier this year.

Some good news for area roots rockers The Marauders. The group has announced that none other than Brian Setzer has written a special song for them. The Marauders will record the song, called “We Are The Marauders,” for their upcoming new album, which should be available in late summer or early fall.

The Blair County Community Action Agency is again presenting their Summer Concert Series at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza. The free weekly Wednesday concerts begin this Wednesday evening with the Prime Time Band, and start at 7 PM. The Marauders will perform on June 21, and The Silencers will entertain on June 28, along with an “Open Mic” talent night that same evening. Other events the Blair County Community Action Agency will be presenting include “Picnic In the Plaza” with the band Big Mac ‘n Fries on Monday, July 3; the annual “Celebration Of Neighborhoods” on Sunday, August 13; and the annual “Unity Day” on Monday, September 11. Admission to all of these events is free, and the public is invited to attend.
