Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 9 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

With no guests scheduled this week, we took the opportunity to get caught up on numerous new local and regional CD’s that have arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters over the past few weeks, as well as leftovers from last week’s Millennium Music Conference recap special. Along the way, we debuted new tunes from Hannah Bingman, Billy Price, Kevin King, Jaret Campisi, Skyla Burrell Blues Band, Pink Yard Flamingos, Panacea, Gravel, The Drama Club, Arielle Silver, Whisper, Incredible Rubber Band and Tony Janflone, Jr.

We also updated Local Music News, we reviewed the new live album by Pittsburgh favorites The Clarks, called Still Live. (the review can be viewed on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com, in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the Message Board area.)

Next Sunday night, we welcome the return of Bloomsburg-based singer, songwriter, guitarist and funny man Dave Blackledge. In addition, Dave will preview his upcoming 5th annual PA Singer/Songwriter Festival (www.singersongwriter.ws/festival), happening July 22-23 in Lewisburg, and we’ll hear music from some of the artists who will be performing at that event. We’ll also update Local Music News and more. Dave Blackledge returns to the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News.

A benefit concert took place this past Sunday at the Cassandra Firehall. The "Turnin' It Up" Benefit Jam was presented by the Cassandra Firehall and the PA Citizens Awareness Group (P.A.C.A.G.) to raise awareness of the P.A.C.A.G. and its mission to affect positive change in legislation pertaining to live musical entertainment. Bands and artists performing at the benefit included Two By Four, Then & Now, V-Twin, Pelt, Silver Sunday, Split Image, and Lone Wolf.

Burgi's Roundhouse Bar & Grill in Greenwood will be able to feature live amplified musical entertainment outside its facility, after the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board this past week granted approval to Logan Township's petition allowing Burgi's to run amplified music outdoors. A public hearing had been held by the PLCB at Burgi's in late May to address the Township's request. Burgi's will be required to follow Logan Township's noise ordinance regarding sound levels.

We experienced some sad news in the regional music scene this past week with the passing of Al Forsyth. Al played in a number of bands and ran sound, primarily in the Clearfield County area. He passed away from an apparent heart attack on July 4.

The Dubois-based heavy metal group Sever is back with a new line-up. The new Sever line-up features drummer Paul Butler, lead vocalist Matt Craig, lead guitarist Dave Robbins, rhythm guitarist Alex Rowles, and bassist Stan Titanski. The group is currently writing songs for their next CD, and will make their official return to stage action in August at a Reynoldsville venue.

House Of Cain has parted ways with bass player Dan Little. Auditions are under way to find Dan's replacement, and the group expects that no live dates will be affected.

Flight 19 has found their new bass player. Former Backdraft, Sidestep and .00 Buck bass player Tim Kelly will take over the bass player position being vacated by Sean Johnson, who is relocating to California later this summer. Tim and Sean have been platooning bass duties at recent Flight 19 shows while Tim becomes acclimated with his new band surroundings.
