Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 13 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guests in the studio this week, Cherry Tree-based power trio Nitekast, for a fun two hours! We checked out recently-recorded tracks from Nitekast’s working new album, Three, and got inside the new music, the group’s live show, future goals and more. Along the way, we updated Local Music News, and reviewed the brand new self-titled album from Rusty Gun Revival in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be viewed in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the Message Board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.) We also debuted a new song from Ricky Lee.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

RIK GOLDEN – “Cresson Gutter Bums”
TED McCLOSKEY – “The Church with the Neon Lights”
NITEKAST – “Rise Again”
KAIROS – “Possessions”
NITEKAST – “The Price Is Right”
ISSUES – “On and On”
NITEKAST – “Oh Well”
TOO MANY EMPTY – “Let It Go”
RICKY LEE – “She’s An American Soldier”

HOUR TWO:

OPPOSITION – “Finger Lickin’”
NITEKAST – “Prime”
RUSTY GUN REVIVAL – “Smoke”
NITEKAST – “Falling Faster”
SILVER SUNDAY – “Cathedral Lights”
NITEKAST – “Happiness Pills”
NITEKAST – “End of Everything”

Next Sunday night, again we have no guests scheduled, so we will again be getting caught up on new CD’s that have been arriving at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll also update Local Music News, and possibly review another new local/regional CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” We’ll have some special good news about the “Backyard Rocker” as well! It will be more maximum local and regional music on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 27 – Fast Forward Special
SEPT. 17 – Jackson Monsour
OCT. 8 – Acoustic Jam Special 6

The “Backyard Rocker” is happy to announce its continued partnership with “The Underground TV,” the new local/regional music television show airing on WWCP-TV Fox 8 Saturday evenings at 6 PM, and now early Monday mornings at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23. Check out “The Underground” as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for “Backyard Rocker” updates on the show each week as well!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 1417 12th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over eight years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. To inquire about becoming a sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker,” call Diane Boslet during regular business hours at (814) 944-9320, or email diane@wbxq.com.

In Local Music News…

Tragedy struck the region’s music scene last weekend. Michael Gingrich of Centre Hall, a member of the State College-based metalcore band The Chaos Method, died last Friday morning, August 4, in a single-vehicle traffic accident along Route 144 in Potter Township, Centre County. Michael was 27. The Chaos Method was scheduled to perform at last weekend’s Central PA Hoedown near Huntingdon. Michael left behind two sons. Our sincerest condolences go out to Michael’s family, friends and bandmates.

The roster of bands performing at the 16th annual “End Of Summer Jam” Benefit Concert is nearly complete. The two-day benefit at the Cresson Sportsmen’s Club, with proceeds going to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, will feature at least a dozen bands. Saturday’s entertainment line-up includes Felix & the Hurricanes. Sunday performers include Generation Gap, Nitekast and The Marauders. Other bands performing during the weekend include The Rik Golden Band, Half Tempted, Redeye, Dream Catcher, Tie Down, 3 Easy Pieces, The Knuckleheads and more. Donation for the entire weekend will be $10, with kids under 12 getting in for free. There will be free parking and overnight camping, and food and refreshments will be available.

A band that used to be one of this area’s heaviest metal bands is reuniting to perform some shows with a new line-up. Johnstown’s The Embalmed has reformed, with brothers Chad and Jason Straw on guitars and vocals, former Saucemonster/Hexhed bassist Greg Hatch, and Darren Byer on drums. The Embalmed plans to perform several shows for local charities before the end of the year.

On a related note, Jason Straw’s other band project, House Of Cain, has found a new bass player but lost a drummer. Greg Hatch takes over bass duties, replacing Dan Little, who left the band earlier this summer. But drummer Mikey Wax has announced that he is parting ways with House Of Cain to devote attention to his family. House Of Cain is already in the process of auditioning possible replacements for behind their drum kit.
