Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 30 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

With no guests in the studio this week, we took the opportunity to again catch up on the new recordings that have arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We debuted new tunes from Just Megan, Jackson Monsour, Hannah Bingman, Smokin' Joe Meholick, Rusty Gun Revival, Green Onions, Grantham Road, Live By Chance, Opposition, FedUP and Tony Janflone, Jr. We also updated Local Music News.

We also announced a new sponsor for the "Backyard Rocker," the U.S. Army. Thanks to the U.S. Army for sponsoring local music on the airwaves on Sunday evenings. Visit their website, www.goarmy.com, and call the Altoona Recruiting Station at (814) 944-2592.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SPOONCHATTER - "11:00 PM"
MATT WAGNER - "Hey Mister"
JUST MEGAN - "Wrecking Ball"
JACKSON MONSOUR - "Nightmares"
BACKSTREET LAW (TIL DECEMBER) - "Falling"
FLIGHT 19 - "3 of a Kind"
HANNAH BINGMAN - "Letter to Your Senator"
DENISE BALDWIN - "Standing in the Rain"
SMOKIN' JOE MEHOLICK - "Beer Bottle Brown"
RUSTY GUN REVIVAL - "Revival"
THE GREEN ONIONS - "Road to the Sea"

HOUR TWO:

WISKERBISKET - "Killer"
GRANTHAM ROAD - "I Won't Fight"
MILKSHAKE JONES - "Miracle Plain"
LIVE BY CHANCE - "I Messages"
OPPOSITION - "Fallen Brothers"
FEDUP - ""Been to Heaven"
FLORD - "The Next Level"
TONY JANFLONE, JR. - "Hey Joe" (live)

Next Sunday night, it's another edition of our Fast Forward Special. Presented in conjunction with Q94's "Fast Forward Weekend," the premise is similar. We'll start by playing an older song featuring a specific musician or band, and then fast forward to a more recent song by that same performer. It could be two completely different bands and music styles, with just the spotlighted musician being the common thread between the two songs! Hear how different area musicians and bands have evolved or explored different styles and sounds. It's the "Fast Forward Special" on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 17 - Jackson Monsour
SEPT. 24 - Blues and Roots Special
OCT. 8 - Acoustic Jam Special 6
OCT. 29 - Halloween/Underground TV Season Kickoff Special
NOV. 19 - Good For Nothing

For the second year, the “Backyard Rocker” is happy to announce its partnership with “The Underground TV,” the new local/regional music television show now airing twice weekly, on WWCP-TV Fox 8 Saturday evenings at 6 PM, and Monday mornings at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23. Check out “The Underground” as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for “Backyard Rocker” updates on the show each week as well!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 4000 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over seven years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. To inquire about becoming a sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker,” call Diane Boslet during regular business hours at (814) 944-9320, or email diane@wbxq.com.

In Local Music News…

Good news from the West Coast regarding the former lead singer of Juiced…Carrie Rapaport reports that her current band, Cakecutter, will not only have music playing in the upcoming Paramount movie release Jackass: Number Two, but they also scored a track on the movie soundtrack CD as well. In addition, Carrie and Cakecutter will have music in the upcoming MTV show Rob and Big Black, as well as Steve-O's new reality show as well. The group’s producer, Geza-X (Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Meredith Brooks, Germs, Tyler Hilton), is currently mixing Cakecutter’s first full-length CD, Buck Naked, Live Free, and the group hopes to have the CD printed and released in mid-September.

A further update regarding the band formerly known as Billy & the Inmates…We recently reported that after Jared Carnevali took over drum duties in the band, that the group had shortened their name to The Inmates. The group now reports that they have changed their name completely, to Night Train.

And a new band to look out for in the months ahead is Sonic 13, featuring former members of Plazma and Xpendable. Joining former Plazma guitarist Travis Dunn and former Xpendable bassist Jason Herbert are singer Justin Means and drummer Tim Lester. The group is currently working on covers and original songs, and expects to hit area stages soon.
