Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 10 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7. The “Backyard Rocker” is brought to you by the U.S. Army. Visit their website, www.goarmy.com, and call the Altoona Recruiting Station at (814) 944-2592.

There were no scheduled guests on the program again this week, so we took the opportunity to go all-out maximum local and regional music over the show’s two hours. We reflected on last weekend’s annual Johnstown Folkfest, featuring music from some of the artists who performed there. And on the eve of the fifth anniversary of 9/11, we also did a block of songs tied together with themes of America and the September 11, 2001 attacks on America. We heard new tunes from Hello Vixen, Russell Lauf, Will Hawkins, Heather Eatman and Just Megan. And we updated Local Music News.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

DAVE DISTEFANO w/GRINNING MOB – “Light the Fire, Get Down”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Someone Took Away Your Microphone”
HELLO VIXEN – “You Can’t Sing a Song You’ve Never Heard”
FAYTED – “Too Late”
RUSSELL LAUF – “The Johnstown Flood of 1889”
TONY MOLLICK PROJECT – “Sweet Sister”
SHADES OF JUNE – “Reflection”
JACKSON MONSOUR – “Everybody Needs Love”
WILL HAWKINS – “Johnstown”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Lady Liberty”

HOUR TWO:

SHERRI MULLEN – “Home of the Free”
POKER FACE – “Prayer for America”
SILVER SUNDAY – “Last Chance Lullaby”
TOO MANY EMPTY – “Awake”
HEATHER EATMAN – “Mine”
JUST MEGAN – “My Nemesis”
SOLEGION – “Defeating My Weakness”
ANYTHING JANE – “Novocain”
ZELAZOWA – “Propeller”
4 DAYS DIRTY – “’Shot’Gun”

Next Sunday night, our guest in the studio will be Bedford-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Jackson Monsour. We will hear tunes from Jackson’s debut CD, Anywhere But Here, and you’ll have chances to call in and win a copy! Jackson also will be performing a few tunes live in the studio. Jackson Monsour pays his first visit to the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 24 – Rusty Gun Revival
OCT. 1 – John Charney (Rocky Horror preview)
OCT. 8 – Acoustic Jam Special 6
OCT. 15 – Blues and Roots Special
OCT. 29 – Halloween Special/Underground Television Season Kickoff Special
NOV. 19 – Good For Nothing
DEC. 17 – Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys
DEC. 24 – Christmas Special
DEC. 31 – 2006 Year In Review Special

For the second year, the “Backyard Rocker” is happy to announce its partnership with “The Underground TV,” the local/regional music television show now airing twice weekly, on WWCP-TV Fox 8 Saturday evenings at 6 PM, and Monday mornings at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23. Check out “The Underground” as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for “Backyard Rocker” updates on the show each week as well! The third season premieres in November!

Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over seven years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. To inquire about becoming a sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker,” call Diane Boslet during regular business hours at (814) 944-9320, or email diane@wbxq.com.

In Local Music News.

We reported earlier that the 11th annual Millennium Music Conference would be returning to the winter months. It also will be taking place at a new location. The Conference is now slated for February 15-18, 2007 at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center in Camp Hill, across the Susquehanna River from downtown Harrisburg. The deadline for bands or artists hoping to showcase at next year's Conference is December 1. For more information, visit the conference website, www.musicconference.net.

More information about the 4th annual Rock The House benefit concert is now available. The benefit, with proceeds going to the IMAC Foundation, will take place next Saturday, September 16 beginning at 3 PM at Greenhouse Park near Johnstown, and will feature three stages of entertainment. The Clarks will again headline this year's event; other performers will include Good Brother Earl, Hope On A Rope, Pivot, Buddy Dee & the Hitmen, Dubmissive, Red Collar Company and Pelt, along with acoustic entertainers Denise Baldwin; Lori, B.J. & Glenn; Clete & Jill; Down Street Deuce and House of Commons. Tickets are $30 and will be available at the gate.

Due to various other life priorities, singer Kara Kise is stepping down as frontlady for the Lewistown-based band Unit 509. For the interim, Kara's husband, Bob Kise, will be singing all lead vocals for the group.

Lastly, an update on Pittsburgh's Tony Mollick. Back in mid-June, Tony suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle crash; breaking both shoulders, his right humorus, clavicle and 9 ribs, as well as collapsing his right lung. After spending eleven days in Pittsburgh's Presbyterian Hospital, Tony has been on the recovery trail. His right arm has radial nerve palsy, and is temporarily half-paralyzed; Tony faces half a year before he'll regain full use of that arm. Tony said he is determined to recover 100% so he can resume performing music again.
