Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 22 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7. The “Backyard Rocker” is brought to you by the U.S. Army. Visit their website, www.goarmy.com, and call the Altoona Recruiting Station at (814) 944-2592.

There were no scheduled guests on the program again this week, so we took the opportunity to go all-out maximum local and regional music over the show’s two hours. We heard new tunes from Spirit Lost, Fleshcoat Featuring Dr. E, Good For Nothing,” Ledbetter Heights, Keystone, White Witch, Love.Hate.Fear and Lumpy Gravy. We also updated Local Music News; and reviewed two CD’s in “The Professor’s CD Corner:” Pivot’s self-titled CD in the first hour, and Choking Faith’s new CD, Thru the Ashes, in the second hour. (Both reviews can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the Message Board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FLIGHT 19 – “Hands”
JULIAN FIST – “Denied”
SPIRIT LOST – “Burden”
PIVOT – “River Entrance”
FLESHCOAT FEATURING DR. E – “Grown Folks’ Music”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Jet Set Suffragette”

Next Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be Chris and Kathy, the hosts of the local music television series The Underground TV, which kicks off its third season starting in November. Chris and Kathy will discuss the show’s third season, and may bring some musical guests along. We’ll also hear music from some of the third season’s upcoming guests. Plus, it’s the Halloween Special, so expect to hear lots of local tunes with a Halloween theme! The Underground TV is in the spotlight on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 19 – Good For Nothing
DEC. 3 – John Charney
DEC. 10 – Sterling Koch

For the second year, the “Backyard Rocker” is happy to announce its partnership with “The Underground TV,” the local/regional music television show now airing twice weekly, on WWCP-TV Fox 8 Saturday evenings at 6 PM, and Monday mornings at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23. Check out “The Underground” as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for “Backyard Rocker” updates on the show each week as well! The third season premieres in November!

In Local Music News.

Following up on last week’s exciting news regarding The Marauders…The Marauders will now be opening three West Coast dates for the Brian Setzer Orchestra, in addition to the three East Coast shows we mentioned last week. The Marauders will open one show in Stockton, California on December 19, and two shows in Redwood City, California on December 21 and 22. For more information, visit The Marauders’ website, www.themarauderspa.com, or Brian Setzer’s website, www.briansetzer.com.

Local music and local theatre join forces in two different productions happening in our area. As you’ve heard in recent weeks on the “Backyard Rocker,” Cresson Lake Playhouse is presenting their 3rd annual edition of The Rocky Horror Show through the end of the month. Showtimes are 8 PM this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, with a special midnight showing on Saturday night. This year’s production takes on a rockabilly flavor, and features a live band with John Charney on guitar and vocals, Scott Jeffrys on bass and Mike Davis on drums.

Also, members of The Servello Family are involved in another area stage production. Jack and Richie Servello are in the pit orchestra for a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, being presented at the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church. Upcoming show times for that production are this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 PM.

For the second year in a row, a special benefit show in memory of a Bedford music legend will take place next Saturday evening. “Remember the Countdowns: Tribute to Dick Smith” will take place at the Bedford Elks Club, with proceeds helping out local leukemia patient Justin Imler. The benefit will start at 6 PM, and will feature a who’s who of Bedford area musicians jamming together in memory of Dick Smith, who entertained Bedford area audiences spanning four decades with the Countdowns and other band projects. Donation will be $10, which includes food, door prizes and more.

Area heavy rockers 4 Days Dirty will head to the nation’s capitol next Sunday night to compete in the second round of the Bodog Battle Of The Bands. The eventual winner of that competition wins a $1 million recording deal. 4 Days Dirty will compete against ten other bands at the Rock’n’Roll Hotel in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit 4 Days Dirty’s website, www.4daysdirty.com, or the contest website, www.bodogbattleofthebands.com.

And Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” sends speedy recovery wishes to the new drummer of Til December, Tony Esposito. Tony injured his back two weeks ago, forcing the group to find a replacement group to perform their scheduled show at Pellegrine’s in Altoona. The New York-based classic rock band The Brainbell Janglers played for most of the night, and the three healthy members of Til December then finished the night with an acoustic set.
