Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 29 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was an action-packed edition of the “Rocker” this week. First, it was our annual Halloween Special, so for much of the program we focused on bands and songs with a Halloween theme and flavor. Second, we were joined by Chris and Kathy from The Underground TV (www.theundergroundtv.com), who previewed the third season of the show, which begins this coming Thursday night, Nov. 2 (actually Friday morning, Nov. 3 at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23). The show will now air four times weekly, Thursday and Friday nights (Friday and Saturday mornings) at 1 AM on WATM ABC 23; and Saturday and Sunday nights (Sunday and Monday mornings) at 1 AM on WWCP Fox 8. (If these times are confusing to you, just turn on the tube and channel surf during the weekend around 1 AM and you’ll find it!)

In addition, we updated Local Music News, and reviewed the new Second Offense CD, Seven, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the Message Board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.) And we debuted new tunes from The Marauders and Loko Phylum. The new tune we debuted from The Marauders, “We Are The Marauders,” is the new song that Brian Setzer wrote for the group, and will be on the new Marauders CD coming out in November. Brian also recorded the song, which is on his new album, 13. Bottom line – WOW, what a week!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

JOHN CHARNEY w/WHITE MOJO – “I Put A Spell On You”
FAYTED – “Crystal Creature”
SILVER SUNDAY – “Cathedral Lights”
HALESTORM – “The Hand”
WHITE WITCH – “Game That I Play”
ICARUS WITCH – “The Ghost of Xavior Holmes”
THE MARAUDERS – “We Are The Marauders”

HOUR TWO:

COINMONSTER – “Low Profile Car”
LOKO PHYLUM – “Charles in Charge”
SECOND OFFENSE – “Vanity”
OPPOSITION – “Finger Lickin’”
DRAGON FIRE – “Unstoppable” (live)
4 DAYS DIRTY – “Killbox”

Next Sunday night, we have no scheduled guests on the program, and will again get caught up on new releases that have arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters over the past two weeks. There may also be an update of Local Music News and another local/regional CD reviewed on “The Professor’s CD Corner,” maybe a Local Music Flashback as well. In any case, it will definitely be maximum local and regional music on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 19 – Good For Nothing
DEC. 3 – John Charney
DEC. 10 – Sterling Koch
DEC. 17 – Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys
DEC. 24 – Christmas Special
DEC. 31 – 2006 Year In Review Special
JAN. 7 – The Lampshades

For the third year, the “Backyard Rocker” is happy to announce its partnership with “The Underground TV,” the local/regional music television show now airing four times weekly, on WATM ABC 23 Friday and Saturday mornings at 1 AM, and Sunday and Monday mornings at 1 AM on WWCP Fox 8. Check out “The Underground” as it features maximum unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for “Backyard Rocker” updates on the show each week as well! The third season premieres November 2!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 4000 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over seven years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. To inquire about becoming a sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker,” call Diane Boslet during regular business hours at (814) 944-9320, or email diane@wbxq.com.

In Local Music News.

Some newly-announced benefit shows top our look at Local Music News. “Moorefest” will take place at Ace’s Lounge in Johnstown this coming Saturday, November 4th, to raise money for the Josh Moore Fulfilling Your Dreams Fund. Josh, a friend of the Johnstown rock scene, died in a motorcycle crash last year. The show will feature performances from the bands Pivot, The Embalmed, Pelt and Disasterpiece. The show begins at 9 PM, and donation at the door will be $7.

For the fourth year in a row, Pennsylvania Musician Magazine, City Limits and the U.S. Marine Corps are teaming up to present a night of live local music to help out needy area children this coming holiday season. The 4th annual Toys for Tots Benefit will happen at City Limits on Saturday evening, November 25. The concert starts at 8:30, and will feature performances from Felix & the Hurricanes, FedUP, Silver Sunday, Bad Daze and Fayted. Donation at the door will be a $10 cash donation, or a new, unopened toy of equal or greater value.

Half Tempted is seeking a new bass player to take over duties in the new year. Current bassist “Big Jim” Ricotta will be stepping aside in early 2007 due to career reasons.

A name change is in store for Huntingdon-State College-based rock band Anything Jane. The group is changing their handle to Camino Sky.

And an update on a former “Backyard Rocker” guest and area musician…When we last heard from him, former Blue Skye Mourning member David Ramos was in San Francisco and had joined up with a band called Slight. Slight called it quits last year, and now David has hooked up with some musicians in the Sacramento area to form BKD. The group has some songs up on their Myspace page to listen to; check them out at www.myspace.com/davidkamandbrian.
