Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 10 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guest via phone this week, Sterling Koch (www.sterlingkoch.com), for taking the time to update us on his career and new solo album, Steelin’ Home. After a herniated disc in his neck two years ago forced him to give up playing conventional six-string guitar, Sterling switched to and learned lap steel, and Steelin’ Home is his second lap steel album. We heard numerous tracks from the CD, and Sterling offered thoughts and insight on his music and lap steel playing. We also debuted new songs from E.D. Ward and Dubmissive, and reviewed the new CD by Ledbetter Heights, The Light That Burns…, in "The Professor's CD Corner." (The review can be viewed on Q94's website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

LORDS-A-LEAPING – "The Bells Of Christmas"
SPOONCHATTER – "Smile"
STERLING KOCH – "'A' Praise"
E.D. WARD – "Run 4 Cover"
STERLING KOCH – "Serve Somebody"
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – "I'm Out Doors"
STERLING KOCH – "If I Could Not Say"
DUBMISSIVE – "Exodus"

HOUR TWO:

NEGATIVE SPACE – "I'll Be Home"
STERLING KOCH – "Keep Your Lamps"
LEDBETTER HEIGHTS – "The Price"
STERLING KOCH – "Oh Well"
THE MARAUDERS – "Alibi"
STERLING KOCH – "Mean Old World"
STERLING KOCH – "Jesus Is The Way"

Next Sunday night, it will be our annual pre-holiday visit from Altoona bluesmen Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys! We’ll find out how the card game of life has treated the Wiseguys over the past year, as we hear tunes from the group’s latest album, Tight Play, and perhaps even a new Wiseguys song or two! We'll also check on Local Music News, and review another new local CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys is our guest in the studio on the "Backyard Rocker," next Sunday night!

In Local Music News.

The Harrisburg-based rock band Red Room is calling it quits after four years together. The decision was a mutual one between all the band members. Red Room will play out remaining dates on New Year's Eve and in January. They thank everybody who has supported them during their time together.

Pittsburgh heavy rockers Skell unveiled their new singer to Altoona fans for the first time last Saturday night at Aldo's in Juniata. The new voice of Skell is Tim Kopelic, who previously sang with Crush Cycle. Tim replaces Pat "Bones" Bono, who left the band to pursue a non-musical career.

The "Backyard Rocker" sends sincerest get well wishes to a former member of Skell, drummer Rich Palone, now with the Pittsburgh band Rokbot, who suffered a heart attack a few weeks ago during a show. Rich is reportedly recovering well, and expects to be back in action soon.

Former Rennis member Craig Stiles is back in action with a reforming band project. Craig has joined Razorback Records recording artists Mausoleum as their new guitarist. Mausoleum is back after a three-year layoff, and is currently writing music for the second album entitled Back From the Funeral. They hope to start recording in January.

And the deadline for band applications to showcase at the 11th annual Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg this coming February has been extended. The new deadline is now this coming Friday, December 15. The Conference happens from Feb. 15th-18th, 2007 at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center in Camp Hill. For more information about the Millennium Music Conference, visit their website, www.mmc11.com. Two keynote speakers have been announced for the conference as well: Bruce Warren of Philadelphia public radio station WXPN, and Walter F. McDonough, Esq., General Counsel for the Future of Music Coalition.
