Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 8 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

The show took a theatrical turn this week with our guests, State College-based ensemble theatre group Mad Muse Productions (www.myspace.com/madmuseproductions). Mad Muse is presenting Hedwig and the Angry Inch at The Brewery in State College on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, April 15, 16 and 17, at 10 PM. We spoke with company mastermind Lori Howsare, director Bret Sarlouis, and various cast members and musicians involved with Hedwig. We gained an overview of Hedwig, as well as thoughts and insight about the characters, music, and more. We heard Mad Muse Productions renditions of “The Time Warp” from last fall’s production of The Rocky Horror Show, and “Tear Me Down” from the upcoming Hedwig production. And we also heard songs from band projects featuring the Mad Muse Hedwig musicians; Uncle Travelling Matt, 69 Leaf Clover and Newbyboys. We also updated Local Music News, and debuted new songs from Milkshake Jones, Worse For Wear and Lowjack. And we even played a tune from Cleveland-based Megaforce recording group Mushroomhead, who nearly tore the roof off of City Limits in Altoona the night before. Wow, what a busy show!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE FLAME SKY – “Only In Your Head”
SHADES OF JUNE – “Not the One For Me”
MAD MUSE PRODUCTIONS – “The Time Warp”
JOHN CHARNEY – “Sojourn”
UNCLE TRAVELLING MATT – “Burning City”

69 LEAF CLOVER – “Kiss Me I’m Irish Today”
DUBMISSIVE – “Exodus”
NEWBYBOYS – “Days So Cold”
LOWJACK – “Links in a Chain”
RHYNE McCORMICK – “How Long” (live)

Next Sunday night, our guest in the studio will be Lewistown-based singer/songwriter Rhyne McCormick. We’ll find out what is new in Rhyne’s world, hear tunes from his latest album, Soul Dust, and possibly some new songs from him as well. We’ll also play songs from other area bands and artists, and review a new local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Rhyne McCormick returns to the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

First, an update on Halestorm…The band is currently in Los Angeles writing and doing pre-production for their upcoming full length Atlantic Records debut album. Besides meeting with producers to determine who will give the album their sound and final touches, the band is also in Los Angeles to write with the most talented songwriters in the business. Currently some of the people collaborating with Halestorm are the DeLeo brothers of Stone Temple Pilots fame, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, Jon 5 of Rob Zombie, Gilby Clarke of Guns N’Roses, Ryan Dusick of Maroon 5 and others. Halestorm will be playing at the famed Whisky-A-Go-Go in Los Angeles on May 6 with Program The Dead.

Next Saturday afternoon, several area bands will be donating their talents to help out the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life at St. Francis University. The bands Soundrive, The Silver Halos, Another Time and Candy From Strangers will be performing during the University’s Relay For Life event, which runs from 10 AM on Saturday until 10 AM on Sunday at the University Mall.

For you bluegrass fans, the Hillbilly Gypsies are coming back to town. The Morgantown-based, high-energy bluegrass ensemble is returning to the Heidelberg Country Club on Saturday, May 5. Opening the show will be Mama Corn. Advance tickets are $15, and can be purchased at the Heidelberg.

The band XL has added a fifth member to their line-up. The group has added a female singer by the name of Candy. The group is continuing work on an EP to be released later this year.

Altoona’s Divine Everlasting is changing their name. The group’s new name will be Syreth. The trio gave one of their final performances as Divine Everlasting this past Friday evening when they opened the Callum Robbins Benefit Concert at Aldo’s in Juniata.

The Harrisburg-based band Milkshake Jones is gearing up to release their second full-length CD in early June. The album, Gala Days, will be released through the Portland, Oregon-based Paisley Pop label on June 5. The title song has been posted on the group’s Myspace site for free download.
