Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 17 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7. The show is brought to you by The Altoona Curve (www.altoonacurve.com), “Everybody’s Hometown Team!”

Again for Father’s Day this year, Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” recognized some of the dads, moms, sons and daughters of the local and regional music scene. We featured tunes from musical parents and kids, including songs with both generations playing side by side! We were joined in the studio by two pairs of music scene dads and their talented kids; Randy “Jackson” Rutherford (ex-Xeno/The Front/U.S. House Band) and Evan Rutherford (9 Planet Tour) and Rick Wertz (British Invasion, Ricky Lee, ex-Xeno/Wild Cherry) and Eric Wertz (ex-9 Planet Tour/Choco Sam). We were also joined by 9 Planet Tour singer (and Evan’s fiancée) Erika Marino, and recognized that she and Evan are now parents as well! We heard music from the guests’ current and past bands, including a new tune from 9 Planet Tour, and tunes from Xeno and Choco Sam. Plus, Randy and Eric brought guitars, and they, Evan and Erika performed a live rendition of “Me and Bobby McGee!” Along the way, we also debuted new tracks from Beyond Reason and TGZ (featuring Altoona native John McKnight on drums, playing alongside former Allman Brothers guitarist “Dangerous” Dan Toler).

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

STEVE & AUTUMN SHIFFLER – “Pictures” (performed live on the air 6/15/03) (father and daughter)
GREG & DUSTIN BURLEY – “Cat’s in the Cradle” (performed live on the air 6/18/07) (father and son)
9 PLANET TOUR – “You Got It”
THE MARAUDERS – “We Are the Marauders” (Ben Dumm, son)
XENO – “Games of Chance” (1985, Local Music Flashback)
BEYOND REASON – “The Rain” (live) (Dan Myers II and Chris Myers, sons)
TGZ – “RonReeKay” (John McKnight, son)

HOUR TWO:

JOINT EFFORT – “Say You Will” (Jeff and Ryan Clapper, father and son)
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “You Say I Say” (Jeff Clapper, father)
ERIKA, RANDY, EVAN & ERIC – “Me and Bobby McGee” (performed live on the air)
CHOCO SAM – “Constantino”
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BAND – “Hold On…” (Sterling and Kate Koch, father and daughter)
XENO – “Here to Stay” (1985, Local Music Flashback)
THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “Lover’s Test” (Aeb Byrne, daughter)

As we get into the heart of summer, we tend to slow down on in-studio guests due to vacations, festivals, and other activities (along with the fact that the air conditioner in Q94’s upstairs studio doesn’t work especially well!). Thus, next Sunday night, we have no guests on the program, so we will spend the two hours getting caught up on new local/regional recordings that have arrived at the Q94 studios in the past several weeks. We’ll also update Local Music News, and review Steel’s debut CD, Hammered, in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” No guests, but maximum local and regional music on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JULY 15 – The Scraps
JULY 22 – My Turning Point
JULY 29 – Last Chance
AUG. 5 – Cover Song Special
AUG. 19 – Fayted (tentative)
AUG. 26 – Spirit Lost
SEPT. 9 – Tony Mollick Project
SEPT. 23 – Chapter 5 (tentative)
OCT. 7 – Justin Mack
OCT. 14 – Acoustic Jam Special 8
OCT. 28 – White Witch (Halloween Special)

The "Backyard Rocker" is happy to announce its continued partnership with "The Underground TV," the local/regional music television show airing on WWPC Fox 8 Sunday and Monday mornings at 1 AM. Check out "The Underground" as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for "Backyard Rocker" updates on the show each week as well!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 1417 12th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over nine years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. To inquire about becoming a sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker,” call Diane Boslet during regular business hours at (814) 944-9320, or email diane@wbxq.com.
