Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 31 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guest, David Burtner, for some interesting and insightful discussion on this week's program. During the first hour, we introduced the listeners to David's onstage alter ego, Summeoyo, who performs a unique mix of modern pop, hip-hop, funk and humor. We heard numerous songs during the show from Summeoyo's debut CD, "Don't Judge A Song By Its Title." We also discussed David's goals for Summeoyo and his own career; David would like to market Summeoyo towards morning radio shows and advertising jingle possibilities. We also got inside the creative process that David goes through when he develops a song; we played an early clip of "Lusty Busty Femme Fatale," and then played the updated Summeoyo version of that same song in its entirety. We discussed songwriting topics, production issues, copyrights and publishing, and other issues. In all, it was a very insightful and informative two hours.

We also premiered new songs from Brad Yoder and Dave Kephart, Jr.

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

WINE OF NAILS - "Manhattan South"
SUMMEOYO - "Saturday Night Confessions"
SILVER SUNDAY - "Naked"
SUMMEOYO - "Big Busted Women, Flat Busted Broke"
DAVE BLACKLEDGE - "Your Butt's Too Fat to Dance Like That"
SUMMEOYO - "Abstinence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder"
BRAD YODER - "Used"
DAVE KEPHART JR. - "She Likes To Ride"
SPOONCHATTER - "Dark No More"

HOUR TWO:

WISKERBISKET - "Runaround Sue"
DAVID BURTNER - "The Beer Commercial Song"
TED McCLOSKEY - "Siamese Sisters"
SIDEWALK ROMEO - "On and On" (Local Music Flashback, 1989)
DARCIE MINER BAND - "In The Mourning"
SUMMEOYO - "Lusty Busty Femme Fatale"
PORNO-TEK - "For Your Love"
SUMMEOYO - "Up for Hanky Panky"

On Sunday night, September 7, we will spotlight a new benefit compilation CD featuring several area bands. "Rocksbury: {Musicians for Kids}" features songs from John Charney & White Mojo, Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys, Frankie & the Nomads, Grinning Mob with Dave DiStefano, and Wine Of Nails. The proceeds from the CD benefit Dylan's Heart Fund, a fund established to help out children with life-threatening conditions. We will be joined by several musicians involved in the project, including project coordinator Denny Owens, John Charney, Dave DiStefano and more. We will hear tracks from the CD, and we will also preview the Sept. 13 "Q-Fest" benefit concert with songs from several of the artists performing there.
