Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 30 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7. The show is brought to you by The Altoona Curve (www.altoonacurve.com), “Everybody’s Hometown Team!”

Thanks to our guests this week, Indiana-based hard rockers The Alluminati (www.thealluminati.com). We found out the latest Alluminati happenings, plus heard several new songs the group has recorded since their last visit on the show in January. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed Real Be Easys' CD, Lost Paradise, in "The Professor's CD Corner." (The review can be viewed in the "Backyard Rocker" section of the message board on Q94's website, www.wbxq.com.) We also debuted new tunes from Way Down East and The Lookies.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ROADKILL – “The Adam Stomp”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Where Alfalfa Grows”
THE ALLUMINATI – “Merciless”
SIGNAL LOST – “Heresy”
THE ALLUMINATI – “The Vampyre”
ZELAZOWA – “1,000 Smiles”
THE ALLUMINATI – “Without A Trace”
A UTOPIAN SKYLINE – “One Angel Said to Another”
THE LOOKIES – “Time”

HOUR TWO:

OUR BROKEN SILENCE – “Starlit Eyes”
FEDUP – “Been to Heaven”
THE ALLUMINATI – “Time to Overcome”
REAL BE EASYS – “Bullet”
THE ALLUMINATI – “Never Again”
SOLEGION – “Solitary Prayer”
THE ALLUMINATI – “Another Light”
CHOKING FAITH – “Wait!”

Next Sunday, our guest in the studio will be Portage native (now based in Frederick, MD), singer and songwriter Justin Mack! We'll learn find out what's new with Justin, plus hear songs from his latest CD, Long Road Home. You'll have chances to call in and win a copy of the CD, and Justin may bring his guitar and do a song or two live on the air! Plus, we'll review a new local CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" Justin Mack returns to the "Backyard Rocker," next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

Altoona heavy metal rockers Dragon Fire have begun a five-week tour through the Midwest and South with Cleveland-based national recording act Mushroomhead. The 33-show tour kicked off this past Friday night in Detroit, makes one Pennsylvania stop at the Crocodile Rock Café in Allentown on October 14; and concludes November 3 with a Halloween concert at the Phantasy Theatre in Lakewood, Ohio. Video clips and updates of the tour can be seen on Dragon Fire’s Myspace website, www.myspace.com/fighttodefend, as well as The Underground Television’s Myspace site, www.myspace.com/ugtv.

Drummer Randy Wilson has parted ways with the band Bad Daze, to focus his energies on his original music project, Way Down East. Former Bad Daze drummer Harry Rainey is filling in behind their drum kit until a permanent replacement is found.

Bad Daze singer Rob Carolus has started a new acoustic duo project with Red Arrow bassist Big Jim Ricotta. The duo will begin playing on area stages in October.

A member of local 80’s hair-band rockers Hair Force One has achieved some attention in a national publication. The group’s keyboard player, Roman, going by the alias Michael Troy, has been interviewed in the October issue of Keyboard Magazine. The publication can be found in select music stores.

The line-up has been set for the annual Pennsylvania Musician Magazine-sponsored Toys For Tots benefit concert, which will take place during Thanksgiving weekend on Saturday night, November 24, at City Limits in Altoona. Bands performing at the benefit will include Spirit Lost, Kitty Whip, Tie Down, Nyne and Slacker Theory. More details about the show, which benefits the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys For Tots program, will be announced in coming weeks.

The area music scene lost a member this past Monday with the passing of Carl Orr. Carl was the lead vocalist for the band Samara (the new incarnation of the former Inversion), and had previously fronted local metalcore band By Any Means Necessary. We at Q94 and the “Backyard Rocker” send our condolences to Carl’s wife, family, friends, present and past bandmates.
