Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 7 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.7 and WBXQ 94.3. The show is brought to you by The Altoona Curve (www.altoonacurve.com), “Everybody’s Hometown Team!”

Thanks to our guest, Justin Mack (www.seventides.net), and his two partners in crime, manager Gung and friend Hub, for a wild and busy two hours! Justin, a Portage native now residing in Annapolis, MD, updated us on his career, and gave us insight into his new CD, Long Road Home, with color commentary from Gung and Hub along the way! We heard numerous tracks from the CD, plus two lucky listeners phoned in to win two free copies! In addition, Justin brought along his acoustic guitar and performed a song live on the air. And unlike Justin’s past two “Backyard Rocker” appearances, nobody was deathly sick nor did any equipment malfunction during the course of the program!

We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed Acalasia’s debut CD, What Makes You a Maniac?, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.) And on top of all that, we debuted new songs from Deb Callahan, Tony Janflone Jr., Alicia Keister and Complete Circle. Wow, what a busy show!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Backyard Rocker”
SPOONCHATTER – “Smile”
JUSTIN MACK – “N.F.A.”
DEB CALLAHAN – “Fat Cat”
JUSTIN MACK – “Morning”
TONY JANFLONE, JR. – “Crocodile Tears” (live)
JUSTIN MACK – “Long Black Veil”
ALICIA KEISTER – “More to Say”

HOUR TWO:

THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “The Grasslands”
RIK GOLDEN – “Brown Eye Mary”
JUSTIN MACK – “Egodeath”
ACALASIA – “Based on True Stories”
JUSTIN MACK – “Redemption Song” (performed live on the air)
JUSTIN MACK – “Killing November”
BADWRENCH – “Clouds” (1996, Local Music Flashback)
JUSTIN MACK – “Hope Road”
COMPLETE CIRCLE – “Headline TV”
JUSTIN MACK – “Free” (live)

Next Sunday night, we originally planned to stage the next installment of the popular "Acoustic Jam Special." But since Q94 is in the process of moving into another facility, we've decided to hold off on doing the "Acoustic Jam Special" until after the dust has settled from the move. Instead, there will be no guests in studio, and we'll use the show to get caught up on new CD releases that have arrived at "Backyard Rocker" headquarters in recent weeks. So it will be maximum local and regional music on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

OCT. 21 - John Charney/Lori Howsare (Rocky Horror Show)
OCT. 28 - White Witch (Halloween Special)
NOV. 4 - Acalasia
NOV. 11 - Our Broken Silence
NOV. 18 - Subdue
NOV. 25 - Way Down East
DEC. 2 - Hi-Tyde
DEC. 9 - SongWorks
DEC. 16 - Images Of Eden
DEC. 23 - Christmas Special
DEC. 30 - 2007 Year in Review Special
JAN. 6 - Crow In The Snow

The "Backyard Rocker" is happy to announce its continued partnership with "The Underground TV," the local/regional music television show airing on WWPC Fox 8 Sunday and Monday mornings at 1 AM. Check out "The Underground" as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for "Backyard Rocker" updates on the show each week as well!

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Backyard Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 2513 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” has been introducing listeners to the region’s best musical talent for over nine years, and we plan to do it for many more. Help guarantee the program’s future, and consider becoming an advertising sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker.” If your business involves music, a “Backyard Rocker” sponsorship can get your message in front of listeners interested in music. To inquire about becoming a sponsor of the “Backyard Rocker,” call Diane Boslet during regular business hours at (814) 944-9320, or email diane@wbxq.com.

In Local Music News…

Generation Gap, citing recent changes in personnel that have made their multi-generational name obsolete, have decided to change their name to New Tricks. The group played their first show as New Tricks this past Saturday night at Magoo's in Cresson.

Local 80's hair-band favorites Hair Force One are in the running for top honors as Best Cover Band in an online voting contest sponsored by Harrisburg-based website HBGOnline. The voting is for the website's annual Central PA Music Awards. Visitors to the website can vote for their favorite bands and artists in a number of divisions. The deadline for voting is midnight on October 31st. The winners will be announced and receive their awards at a special awards ceremony happening Thursday night, November 15 at the Dragonfly nightclub in downtown Harrisburg. For more information and to vote, visit HBGOnline's website, www.hbgonline.com.

Felix & the Hurricanes are going for the gold this evening in Pittsburgh. The Hurricanes are competing in a qualifier round of the Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania's International Blues Challenge, taking place at the Thunderbird Cafe in Pittsburgh. Among the groups the Hurricanes are competing against this evening are Jill West & Blues Attack and the Mystic Knights. We at Q94's "Backyard Rocker" wish the Hurricanes the best of luck in moving on to the next round.

Pittsburgh guitar great Tony Janflone, Jr. has announced that he will be taking a break from live performing after the end of this year. Tony cited recent health issues and a desire to focus on teaching guitar to his students as factors in his decision. Tony said he also intends to focus on his original music and completing several CD projects he has been working on. His last show before going on break will be New Year's Eve at the Four Points Ballroom in Greensburg. If you want to see Tony performing a little closer to this area, he will be playing a freebie this coming Friday afternoon starting at 4 PM at the Fort Ligonier Days Festival in downtown Ligonier.
