Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 2 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3. The show is brought to you by The Altoona Curve (www.altoonacurve.com), “Everybody’s Hometown Team!”

Thanks to our guests, singer Dale Nitti, guitarist Rob Sottile and bassist Mike Weber of Cambria County rockers Hi-Tyde (www.myspace.com/hityde), for a fun and interesting two hours! We got caught up on the latest Hi-Tyde happenings, and heard songs from the group’s newly-recorded 7-song CD. We also gave away a Hi-Tyde prize pack of a CD, T-shirt and skull cap to one lucky listener. We also updated Local Music News, and debuted new songs from Drop Of Grey, The Wilcox Hotel and Silver Sunday.

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ACALASIA – “So Much for the Railcar”
HELLO, VIXEN – “Grandpa’s Medicine”
HI-TYDE – “One Who Cares”
DISENGAGED (DROP OF GREY) – “Running on Empty”
HI-TYDE – “Turn Back Time”
JUSTIN MACK – “Killing November”
HI-TYDE – “You Lied”
THE WILCOX HOTEL – “Hubris”

HOUR TWO:

VS. THE EARTH – “T.A.T.A.”
SILVER SUNDAY – “History Repeats”
HI-TYDE – “Broken”
CLASHING PLAID – “All I Got for Xmas Was Drunk”
HI-TYDE - “Bad Night”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Ascension/Kaleidoscope”
HI-TYDE – “I Will Find A Way”
HI-TYDE – “Faultline”

Next Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be members of the SongWorks organization. Based in Johnstown, SongWorks is an association of singers and songwriters who conduct songwriting seminars and other programs and events. We’ll find out more about the organization, hear music from some of its members, and find out about their plans for the coming year. We’ll also review The Nightcrawlers’ new CD, Blue Silver, in “the Professor’s CD Corner,” and hear songs from other area bands and artists! SongWorks is in the spotlight on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 16 – Images Of Eden
DEC. 23 – Christmas Special
DEC. 30 – 2007 Year in Review Special

In Local Music News…

One of the Harrisburg area’s most popular musicians is recovering from injuries suffered after he was assaulted after a Thanksgiving night performance. Shea Quinn, vocalist and guitarist for the Lancaster-based band the Luv Gods and former bassist of popular Harrisburg-based band The Sharks in the 80’s, was attacked outside the Dorado restaurant in Camp Hill early Black Friday morning after a performance, police said. Police said a member of the audience “exchanged words” with Quinn during his acoustic show. Then, as Quinn was packing his gear afterward, he was assaulted in the parking lot of the restaurant. Quinn was released from a hospital early last week. Two men have been charged in connection with the attack. Quinn has had to cancel his performance schedule for at least the next month, including a Sharks reunion show that was to take place this past weekend. Several benefit events are being planned in the Harrisburg area to help out Quinn.

Harrisburg-based solo performer Rhyne McCormick has teamed up with two members of Altoona’s 7th Gear to form a new project. Shots McGee will feature Rhyne on guitar and vocals, 7th Gear singer/guitarist Brendon Burns and bassist/singer Kelly Montgomery, and drummer Randy Servello. Shots McGee is currently performing a variety of current and classic rock favorites, but according to Rhyne, will eventually be working on original songs.

Another Toys for Tots benefit concert will be taking place in the Altoona area next weekend. Aldo’s third annual Toys for Tots benefit concert will happen next Saturday night, and will feature the bands Chapter 5, Choking Faith and Twisted & Used. Also appearing will be the debut of a new Altoona-based metal band called Naildriver. Naildriver will feature former Saucemonster singer Floyd Hunter, former Grimm guitarist Scott Botteicher, bassist Dan Mullan and drummer Randy Sciarrillo. Donation at the door will be either a $5 donation or a new, unopened toy of equal or greater value.
