Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 6 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3. The show is brought to you by The Altoona Curve (www.altoonacurve.com), “Everybody’s Hometown Team!”

This week, we welcomed our first guests of 2008 into the studio, Crow in the Snow (www.myspace.com/crowinthesnow). We met the band members and learned the origins of this new project, plus heard songs from their CD Snow Flurries, Blizzards and Carrion (a compilation of their first two EP’s). We also debuted a new song from The Wilcox Hotel, updated Local Music News, and reviewed Images Of Eden’s CD Sunlight of the Spirit in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

BAD DAZE – “Lost” (live)
SPIRIT LOST – “Pieces of a Stained Glass Mind”
CROW IN THE SNOW – “Fire Blood”
THE WILCOX HOTEL – “Angels and Devils”
CROW IN THE SNOW – “Vampyre”
BLEECH (PRIVATE PROPERTY) – “Faded Memories”
CROW IN THE SNOW – “Scarecrow”
MY TURNING POINT – “Broken Man”

HOUR TWO:

BEYOND REASON – “The Rain” (live)
PENSIVE FEAR – “Where the Answer Lies”
CROW IN THE SNOW – “A Primitive Display of Power”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
CROW IN THE SNOW – “Deconstructing Daniel”
CROW IN THE SNOW – “Standoff”
FLIGHT 19 – “Hands”
THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “African Echo”

Next Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be the State College-based band The Wilcox Hotel. We’ll get acquainted with the band members and learn their story, plus hear songs from their CD The Sacred and the Profane. We’ll also hear music from other area bands and artists, and more! Listen as The Wilcox Hotel visits the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

The end of 2007 marked the end of another era for a popular Cambria County-based classic rock band. Homer’s Army announced that their New Year’s Eve show was their final show as Homer’s Army. The group has seen several formations come and go since the late 1960’s. According to bassist and singer Mike Griffiths, a new project will start from the remnants of Homer’s Army, and should be on area stages soon.

As reported earlier on the “Backyard Rocker,” State College party band favorites Velveeta are bidding farewell to two of their longtime members. Steve Bentz and Mike Lee are leaving Velveeta to pursue other musical ventures, and their last shows with the self-proclaimed cheese-rockers will be this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11 and 12, at The Saloon in State College. The two shows are being called the Velveeta Crossroads Weekend, as John Matthews, Velveeta's original bass player, will be coming out of retirement and returning to play with the band as they continue on as a 4 piece.

Local 80’s hair-band rocking favorites Hair Force One are seeking a new guitarist, following the departure of lead guitarist Michael (Jason Berardi) to devote more attention to his family. The group’s New Year’s Eve show was to be Michael’s final show with the group, but he had to miss the show due to illness.

And the band formerly known as Bleech returned to the Altoona area this past weekend with a brand new name. Drummer and singer Bud Beals, bassist and singer Bill Haney and guitarist and singer Mike Harper have reformed under the name Private Property. The group made their first return appearance in the Altoona area this past Saturday night at the Victory Lane Saloon.
