Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 10 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM.

This week, we introduced a new special, “Local Music Live in Concert.” For the program’s two hours, we featured live performance tracks from local and regional bands and artists. Along the way, we introduced new live tunes from BluesMoon and DC & Co. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed Steve Summerhill’s new live CD, One Man Band, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

NORMAN NARDINI - "Rebel Rouser/Rock and Roll City"
PETE PALLADINO, JEFF FELTENBERGER, RON SIMASEK - "Ore Hill"
BLUESMOON - "Little by Little"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "On the Bottom Again"
BEYOND REASON - "The Rain"
VS. THE EARTH - "Carolina Sky"
THE CLARKS - "Hell on Wheels"
MIKE SWAVELY & THE CHROME MAGNATONES - "Secret Agent Man"
DC & CO - "Separate Your Wash"

HOUR TWO:

THE GRIMM - "Black Sheep"
WHITE WITCH - "Paranoid"
JUSTIN MACK - "Free"
STEVE SUMMERHILL - "Build Me Up Buttercup"
BAD DAZE - "Lost"
WHISKEY HIGH - "Axeslayer" (1992, Local Music Flashback)
DARCIE MINER - "One Big Line to the Top of the Sky"
RHYNE McCORMICK - "How Long"
TONY JANFLONE, JR. - "Hey Joe"

Next Sunday night, we’ll take an evening to get caught up on the multitude of new local and regional CD’s that have arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll hear brand new tunes from The Avantgarde, The Green Onions, Fountain of Tears, Fellswoop and more! We’ll also do double-duty in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” reviewing The Rustlanders’ self-titled debut during the first hour and White Witch’s Never Dies the Dream CD during the second hour. It will be maximum local and regional music on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

FEB. 24 – Millennium Music Conference Recap Special
MAR. 2 – 10th Anniversary Special w/Felix & the Hurricanes
MAR. 9 – Acoustic Jam Special
MAR. 23 – My Turning Point
MAR. 30 – Dollarz-n-Sense
APR. 6 – Ledbetter Heights
APR. 20 – Chris V. & the Stanley Street Band

The "Backyard Rocker" is happy to announce its continued partnership with "The Underground TV," the local/regional music television show airing on WWPC Fox 8 Sunday and Monday mornings at 1 AM. Check out "The Underground" as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for "Backyard Rocker" updates on the show each week as well!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Backyard Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WBXQ Radio, 2513 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.

In Local Music News.

The 12th annual Millennium Music Conference will take place next weekend, Feb. 14-17, at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center in Camp Hill near Harrisburg. The event will feature three days of informative seminars, panels, keynote addresses, mentoring, and a trade show; as well as four nights of showcase performances throughout the Harrisburg area from nearly 300 different bands and artists. Two representatives from the Altoona area will be showcasing at this year's Millennium; rockers Spirit Lost and country favorite Ricky Lee. Q94's "Backyard Rocker" will be representing at this year's Millennium, and even appearing on a radio panel next Sunday afternoon. We will recap the happenings at this year's conference two weeks from tonight, on our February 24 edition of the "Backyard Rocker."

Although Labor Day weekend is a long distance away, some preliminary entertainers have already been announced for this year's Johnstown Folkfest. Already on the bill to perform at this year's event, happening August 29-31 at Festival Park near downtown Johnstown, are Jason & the Scorchers, Deke Dickerson & the Ecco-Fonics, Barrence Whitfield, Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers, Rusty Gun Revival, The Marauders, Dubmissive and more. You can see the entire slate of performers by visiting the Folkfest website, www.jaha.org/FolkFest/performers.html.

Tyrone/Altoona-based melody punk rockers Lose The Name (formerly Signal Lost) have signed a recording deal with California-based record label Takeover Records, the label started by former Yellowcard guitarist Benjamin Harper. According to guitarist Jimmy Skinny, the group will soon release their new EP, Fells Point, through the label.

The Altoona area lost another live music venue this past week with the demolition of the Victory Lane Saloon building on Monday. The 110-year-old building had been red-tagged after bricks fell from the structure nearly a month earlier.

And we are sad to report the passing of a former Cambria County musician in late January. Tim Weatherford, who played drums in area bands before moving to Tennessee, passed away from an apparent heart attack on January 25. He was 33.
