Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 18 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

Again, it was a fun show, as the “Backyard Rocker” took a trip aboard the “Party Plane!” Thanks to our guests, Flight 19 (www.flight19music.com), for an entertaining two hours! We met the band members, learned the latest Flight 19 happenings, and heard four new songs from the group’s forthcoming full-length CD, Hobo Stew, being released later this year. We also qualified two lucky listeners for Q94’s annual Harley-Davidson giveaway on June 14, we updated Local Music, and debuted new songs from the Jeff Perigo Opus, Mercy Nation, Jerry Haines and Ed McDade. And we reviewed Satanic Bat’s Tales from the Southland…Tales from the Sea CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SPIRIT LOST – “Misery of a Wounded Heart”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Summon the Sea Hag”
FLIGHT 19 – “Crank It Up”
JEFF PERIGO OPUS – “Back to New Orleans”
FLIGHT 19 – “Liquid Courage”
G211 – “Seething”
FLIGHT 19 – “3 of a Kind”
ACALASIA – “Based on True Stories”
MERCY NATION – “Prom Queen”

HOUR TWO:

JERRY HAINES – “On My Mind”
ED McDADE – “Clean Money”
FLIGHT 19 – “The Game”
SATANIC BAT – “Southern Rock Plantation”
FLIGHT 19 – “Migraine ‘08”
ISSUES – “Back Atcha”
FLIGHT 19 – “Hands”

Next Sunday night, it’s our annual Memorial Day Special! A 3-hour special starting at a special time of 7 PM, the “Backyard Rocker” will take a trip down memory lane to remember past area bands and artists who used to grace local stages, some from as far back as the 60’s! And during the show’s final hour, we will pay homage to some of the area musicians we have lost over the years. It’s our popular Memorial Day Special edition of the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JUNE 1 – Sarah Fleck & the Palpitations
JUNE 8 – Evelyn’s Ashes
JUNE 15 – Father’s Day Special
JUNE 29 – Rockabilly Junction
JULY 6 – G211

The "Backyard Rocker" is happy to announce its continued partnership with "The Underground TV," the local/regional music television show airing on WATM ABC 23 Friday mornings at 1:30 AM and on WWPC Fox 8 Sunday mornings at 1:30 AM. Check out "The Underground" as it features different unsigned local and regional bands every week; and watch for "Backyard Rocker" updates on the show each week as well! Their new television season is under way!

In Local Music News…

A special benefit show to raise funds to build a new skate park in Altoona will take place next Sunday night. The Skate Park Benefit will take place at Aldo’s in Juniata next Sunday night beginning at 9 PM, and feature performances from the bands Without Zerb, Dick Shack Posse and Silver Sunday, as well as former Edison frontman Ryan Carducci performing solo acoustic. DJ Marky Mark will spin tunes between bands. That show is open to those 21 or older, and legal ID is required.

Hershey-based rock band The April Skies is in the middle of working on their next full length CD release. The group is hoping for a fall release. The April Skies will be one of the performing groups at next weekend’s Harrisburg Artsfest, happening at Riverfront Park along the river in Harrisburg.

Centre County rockers G211 have finished work on a five-song EP, to be released shortly. The group also recently saw a change behind the drum kit, as former Plush drummer Travis Kramer replaces Tony Tambourini.
