Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the Oct. 12 premiere edition of Rocky 104.9's new weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season. (The show will air from 8 to 10 PM after the Steelers' season concludes.) This was the debut, and I again want to thank Tommy Edwards and Rocky 104.9 for the warm welcome, and for giving area bands and artists a new weekly radio home.

For the premiere, we thank our special guests, John Charney and Will Jones, for an interesting and insightful two hours. John is the musical director, and Will is the director, of Allegheny Highlands Regional Theatre’s upcoming production of The Who’s classic rock opera Tommy, which will hit the stage at the Cresson Lake Playhouse over the next two weekends. Showtimes are 8 PM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 16-18 and 23-25. (For ticket information, visit www.cressonlake.com.) John and Will gave us the lowdown on Tommy, and we also heard music from John, both from his solo album Be Water and from Wine Of Nails. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed The Marauders’ new CD, Dial M for Marauder, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FLIGHT 19 – “Crank It Up”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Issues”
JOHN CHARNEY – “Girl Before a Mirror”
RISE PHOENIX RISE – “Walk Away”
JOHN CHARNEY – “Sojourn”
FAYTED – “Senoritaville”
THE LAMPSHADES – “Scotland”
NITEKAST – “Where the Devil Sleeps”

HOUR TWO:

CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Media Controls the World”
LIES INC. – “Hypnotic”
WINE OF NAILS – “Manhattan South”
THE MARAUDERS – “She Took a Shot”
JOHN CHARNEY – “Holy Hoptoes”
J.D. STRUM – “The Drag”

Next Sunday night, we have no guests scheduled, so we’ll take the opportunity to check out some of the new recordings that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll also update Local Music News, and review The Lampshades’ new CD The Lampshades Are Alright in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Maximum local and regional music come to play on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

OCT. 26 – HALLOWEEN SPECIAL
NOV. 2 – LIES, INC.
NOV. 16 – CLINT CAROTHERS
DEC. 21 – CHRISTMAS SPECIAL w/JOHN CIMINO (LORDS-A-LEAPING)
DEC. 28 – 2008 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL

Indiana-based hard rockers Solegion are currently on the road, supporting As Summer Dies on a tour sponsored by Hot Topik. The tour includes shows in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania. During one of the off dates from the tour, Solegion will be opening a show for Days Of The New.

Former Hair Force One keyboard player Michael Troy is back on the road as part of Yngwie Malmsteen’s touring band. The band is currently touring the United States, and will play one Pennsylvania date on October 25 at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster.

Silver Sunday has a new look. Singer Cathie and bassist Mike Stanley recently played their final show with the group, and replacing them are former Splink! singer Ashley Bee and bassist London Joe.

Local heavy metal rockers Samara have announced their new singer, as former Nine Six Nine and At Hope’s End frontman Frank Rumfola takes over lead microphone. Frank replaces Carl Orr, who passed away a year ago.

Local blues rock group BluesMoon and bassist Big Jim Ricotta have parted ways. A new bassist named Pete replaces Jim in the BluesMoon roster. Jim will continue on with several other musical projects.

Veteran bass player Phil Kolarczyk has joined the ranks of local classic rockers The Red Arrow.

A special benefit show is taking place later this month to benefit military mothers and friends. The show, “Halloween Havoc 2008,” will take place on Saturday night, Oct. 25 starting at 8 PM at the Bedford Elks Club. The show will feature performances from the bands Fayted, S.O.L. plus a third band to be named; and will also include a Halloween costume contest. Tickets are $7 in advance, or $10 at the door.
