We debuted new tunes from A Brilliant Return, Thunderbox, Oldscool, Bojibian, False Icons, Red Collar, Synged and The Big Dirty. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed The Clover’s 13 Steps CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

In Local Music News.

Local performer and composer Zupe is keeping a close eye on the Grammy Award nominations these days. Zupe’s instrumental CD with Johnstown’s Dave Nichols, Speechless, is currently a contender for eight Grammy nominations; including Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Contemporary Jazz Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Individual tracks, such as "Caterpillar" and "Step On It," are vying for recognition in the Best Rock Instrumental Performance and Best Instrumental Composition categories, respectively. The title track is looking for both Record of the Year and Best Instrumental Arrangement nominations. The official Grammy nominations will be announced in early December.

The members of Pittsburgh/Atlanta alt-country rockers Sodajerk have been involved in various side projects of late. Drummer/singer “Poppa” John Tucker and bassist Blake Parris have been collaborating in the project the Young Antiques, and have just released "Soundtrack To Tear Us Apart" through the project’s website, www.youngantiques.com. John has also started a new acoustic country duo with Hot Rods guitarist Fred McNeal called The Mighty Underdawgs. And singer/guitarist Bucky Goldstein has also been working on his solo Swingset project. More information about that project is available on a Myspace site, www.myspace.com/swingsetrocks.

And if you have a song you think has some potential, The International
Songwriting Competition has extended its submission deadline until December 1. The ISC will continue to take online, mail-in, and MySpace entries until this date. All entries must be postmarked or uploaded online on or before December 1. The ISC has 20 different categories to enter your music into, and a list of prestigious judges including Tom Waits, Ray Davies of The Kinks, Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20, Buckcherry, Jerry Lee Lewis and others. Winning entries can win from $150,000 in cash and merchandise. The ISC accepts original songs from musicians, artists, groups, and songwriters at every level from amateur to professional. For more information, visit the website www.songwritingcompetition.com.
