Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 15 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Things didn't go quite as expected for this week's show. Our originally-scheduled guests, Wake Up Screaming, requested to defer their appearance to early summer due to difficulties with their recording of songs for the program. Since we had a few days to play with before this week's program, news of the sudden opening for a guest on the show was posted on this area's nonprofit local music website, Rockpage (www.rockpage.net), and interested bands and artists were encouraged to reply. Thanks to all the groups who responded; and thanks to Third Standard, the band selected to be this week's replacement guests.

It turned out being a fun two hours, as we met Tyson, Joe and Andy from Third Standard, and heard tracks from the group's recently-released debut CD, “Rabbit Run.” The group also brought guitars and played one song from the CD unplugged for us as well. We flashed back to 1999 to hear a song from Pittsburgh's Shere Khan, and we debuted new music from The Rudys, Right Side Thief and Gypsy & the Crazymoon.

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ECHOTOWN - “A Dinner with Richard Petty”
DEAD LEAVES - “President”
THIRD STANDARD - “Rabbit Run”
ROADKILL - “Adam Stomp”
THIRD STANDARD - “14 Days in a Bender”
THE RUDYS - “Country Cadillac”
THIRD STANDARD - “Denied”
TED McCLOSKEY - “Siamese Sisters”
RIGHT SIDE THIEF - “Insignificance”

HOUR TWO:

SILVER SUNDAY - “Naked”
HALESTORM - “I Bleed”
THIRD STANDARD - “After You Go” (live in studio)
THIRD STANDARD - “Right Now”
GYPSY & THE CRAZYMOON - “Chain of Fools”
THIRD STANDARD - “Outside Wiregrass”
SHERE KHAN - “Enter Our Dreams (1999, Local Music Flashback)
THIRD STANDARD - “One More Time”

This coming Sunday, Feb. 22, our in-studio guests will be Right Side Thief. Currently a studio project that will soon debut on area stages, Right Side Thief has completed their debut CD, called “Identity Crisis.” We'll hear progressive-geared tracks from the album, and hear the band members discuss the project, the album, and their plans to bring their music to area stages. Right Side Thief visits the “Backyard Rocker,” this Sunday night!

This week in local music news...

A personnel change for the band Driven, who have parted ways with drummer Bob Frye. Replacing Bob is former Stix and Stones/Stems & Seeds drummer Jamie Kmett. Jamie debuted with Driven this past Friday night at a show in the Altoona area.

Get well wishes go out to Stept On drummer Josh Hetrick, on the mend after entering a hospital this past week to have his appendix taken out. This sudden development forced the band to cancel their shows this past weekend. Stept On is set to release their new demo CD, which they recorded last month at a studio in Philadelphia.

On this Valentine's Day weekend, a local music Valentine story to report...Last Saturday night, February 7, in front of a packed house at the Valley Inn in Commodore near Punxsutawney, Bad Daze lead singer Rob Carolus popped the big question to his girlfriend, Shelly, on stage at the end of Bad Daze's second set. She said “yes,” and the two are setting a date to make the union official soon. Congratulations to Rob and Shelly from us here at the “Backyard Rocker.”
