Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 28 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to Wiskerbisket for making the roadtrip in to be on the program. We met this wild and crazy bunch and discussed their music and unpredictable, high-octane live show. We also heard tracks from the group's recently-released 4-song EP.

In addition, we were joined by Matt Steele of NPC, Inc., who filled us in on the details of “Rockin' for a Cure,” a benefit concert taking place this Friday, April 2 at Glenn's Place in Claysburg. The show, which benefits the NPC American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team, features the bands Hair Force One, the Trace Moran Band, Beyond Reason, Shift and The Rudys.

Along the way, we debuted new songs from This Island Earth and Next Stop Detox.

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE FLAME SKY - “Only In Your Head”
ACID REFLUX - “Spirit High”
WISKERBISKET - “Be My Lover”
THE DRUNKEN UNCLES - “Uncle Morphine”
WISKERBISKET - “Skank”
EMILY'S TOYBOX - “Angels Falling”
DON HOSLER - “Give It To Ya Straight”
TRACE MORAN - “Revenge”
THE RUDYS - “Country Cadillac”

HOUR TWO:

ROADKILL - “RK2K2”
AIXELSYD - “Stand Up”
WISKERBISKET - “Stand By Me”
THIS ISLAND EARTH - “Incendiary (Spirit of Perverseness)”
WISKERBISKET - “6 Finger Flip”
EVENSONG - “Murmur”
WAY DOWN EAST - “Bang Your Head to This”
NEXT STOP DETOX - “3 Years Ago”

This Sunday night, our guests will be the Harrisburg-based rock band Evensong. Evensong just released their debut CD; we will hear songs from the CD and get acquainted with the band members, their music, live show and more. Evensong visits the “Backyard Rocker,” this Sunday night!

In local music news this week:

Registrations are being accepted for this year’s Crazy Fest, the annual amateur talent show put together each year by local entertainer Dennie Huber. This year’s 14th annual Crazy Fest will take place Sunday afternoon, April 25th, at 1 PM at the Greenwood Firehall in Altoona. Crazy Fest is open to any amateur entertainers 21 years of age and under, and welcomes any and all talent; singers, musicians, amateur bands, actors, dancers, and more. Contestants will perform for various awards, trophies, prizes, and recognition before a supportive audience and atmosphere. New this year, Q94 and Pennsylvania Musician magazine will be sponsoring the amateur band division of the contest. Members of all bands entered in this year’s division will receive free Pennsylvania Musician T-shirts, and the winning band will receive a guest appearance on a future edition of the “Backyard Rocker.” To register or for more information about Crazy Fest, contact Dennie Huber at (814) 942-2516.

Drummers of the area unite! There will be a get-together of area drummers this Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 PM at Tyrone Area High School. Drummers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to come and participate. There will be discussions of drum topics, demonstrations of equipment, rudiments and techniques, questions and answers, networking and more. The event is free; for more information, visit Rockpage at www.rockpage.net.

A change of guitarists for Johnstown heavy rockers Rennis. Guitarist Angry Johnny has left the band to pursue other interests. Returning to the band to replace him is Rennis’ original guitar player, Bob “Bobo” Rosi. No word on the status of Rennis’ first CD in the wake of this roster move, but we’ll keep you posted.

And it’s now official…the Hershey-based heavy rock band Balistic has found their drummer, and it is former Romeo/Aslan/Cherry Pie drummer Don Hosler, who has been filling in on an interim basis since the group’s former drummer, John Lohman, played out his remaining show dates with the group in February.
