Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 18 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was another busy edition of the “Backyard Rocker” this week. First, thanks to our guests, Johnstown heavy rockers Deviance, for roadtripping in to give central PA a preview of their forthcoming new CD, “Contagion,” which will be released on May 8. We heard tracks from the CD, and two listeners won advance copies of the disc. We also debuted new music from Dead II Me (post-mortem; they disbanded this past week), Flap Jack’n’Jill, Martyrdom and White Witch.

In addition, we spoke with local entertainer Dennie Huber, who organizes and emcees the annual “Crazy Fest” Amateur Talent Show. The 14th annual “Crazy Fest” happens Sunday afternoon, April 25, at the Greenwood Firehall; Dennie filled us in on the details of “Crazy Fest,” where young amateur entertainers and bands under 21 are invited to come perform and compete for trophies, awards and other prizes, plus their moment in the spotlight in front of a friendly and supportive audience. (Q94 and Pennsylvania Musician Magazine are underwriting the amateur band division of this year’s “Crazy Fest;” all band members will receive free Pennsylvania Musician T-shirts, and the winning band will receive a guest slot on a future edition of Q94’s “Backyard Rocker.” After speaking with Dennie, we featured music from two past “Crazy Fest” winners: the former singer of Dead Reckoning, now known as Fisher Meehan, and his North Carolina-based band Drugmoney (featured recently in SPIN Magazine); and Dragon Fire, who after winning the “Crazy Fest” band division eventually went on to appear on national television on Farmclub.com. Young entertainers wishing to participate in this year’s “Crazy Fest” may register by contacting Dennie Huber at (814) 942-2516.

This week's playlist:

BACKSTREET LAW – “Stages”
SKELL – “Slunk”
DEVIANCE – “Manifesting”

This Sunday night, our guests will be Emily’s Toybox. We’ll get caught up on the latest highjinks with the Toybox crew, hear songs from their new live CD and their latest studio disc, “25/7,” and listeners will have chances to win copies of both. It should be quite a madhouse when Emily’s Toybox returns to the “Backyard Rocker,” this Sunday night!

In local music news this week:

A change in crew aboard the “Party Plane.” The band Flight 19 announced this past week that bassist Jim Phillips is stepping away from the band; his last show with the group was this past weekend in Ebensburg. Replacing Jim will be Electric Blue bassist and singer Sean Johnson. Early indications are that Sean will also continue to perform with Electric Blue.

Half Tempted has added another member, as former Banditos/Outta Control guitarist “Big Jim” Ricotta joined the group. Jim played his first show with Half Tempted this past Friday night in Altoona.

More information about The Clarks’ new album and its release…The new Clarks album is entitled “Fast Moving Cars,” and it is slated for a June 8 release. The first single from the album, “Hell On Wheels,” debuted this past week on several Pittsburgh area radio stations. The Clarks will celebrate the album’s release with two CD-release concerts at Chevrolet Amphitheater at Station Square in Pittsburgh June 18th and 19th. Tickets for those shows officially go on sale this coming Saturday, April 24th.

And Johnstown heavy metal band Martyrdom has a new drummer and a new CD. The drummer is Scottie D., a veteran of the Florida death metal scene, who replaces John Reigle behind the kit. The group has also issued their self-titled debut CD, which can be obtained at their shows.
