Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 25 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

It was another busy edition of the “Backyard Rocker” this week. First, thanks to our guests, Emily’s Toybox, for making the roadtrip to our studios to update us on their wild and wacky world. We heard tunes from both their latest studio album, “25/7,” and their new live album, “ETB Live” (some of them cleaned up for radio airplay, including a radio-safe version of “Road Rage” altered by the show host himself!). And several lucky listeners won copies of both CD’s during the course of the show.

We also checked on local music news, recapped the results of the 14th annual “Crazy Fest” Amateur Talent Show (which happened earlier in the afternoon at the Greenwood Firehall in Altoona), and reviewed No Dice’s new CD, “Once, In a World…,” on the Professor’s CD Corner. And we also played new songs from Jason Wurst and Dave Blackledge.

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

DAVE DiSTEFANO w/GRINNING MOB - “Light the Fire, Get Down”
EMILY'S TOYBOX - “Dead Alive”
MAD COWS - “Sing for Yourself”
EMILY'S TOYBOX - “Before”
WISKERBISKET - “Stand By Me”
EMILY'S TOYBOX - “Rope Burns”
THE RUDYS - “My Back Yard”
JASON WURST - “Dreams of Sanity”
3 BROKEN DOLLS - “Whatever Happened to the American Dream”

HOUR TWO:

DAVE BLACKLEDGE - “I'm Not This Fat, Just Constipated”
EMILY'S TOYBOX - “Acappella”
NO DICE - “Homesick”
EMILY'S TOYBOX - “Your Girlfriend Is Ugly”
NEVERMOURE (VS. THE EARTH) - “Untouchable”
EMILY'S TOYBOX - “Back of the Bus”
WAY DOWN EAST - “Magnum Is My Name”
EMILY'S TOYBOX - “Road Rage”

This Sunday night, our guest in the studio will be Bloomsburg-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Dave Blackledge. We will hear songs from Dave's CD's, including his latest, "You Ain't Gettin' No Cherry," and listeners will be able to win copies. In addition, Dave is bringing his guitar and performing live on the program for us as well. Dave Blackledge on the "Backyard Rocker," this Sunday night!

In local music news this week:

Stept On has parted ways with lead singer Chuck Budzina. Guitarist Matt Day, bassist Art Armani and drummer Josh Hetrick are currently searching for a new singer, and plan to continue on. This development occurred just as Stept On was set to release their new EP, “The Philadelphia Experiment.” According to Matt, the CD will still be released, and will be available soon.

In another band personnel departure, guitarist Gregory Marshall has left Harrisburg industrial rockers Suture Seven.

A name change for the band Halestorm. The group, citing the evolution of their style and sound, has officially changed their name to Method Of Seduction. You can find out more about the band formerly known as Halestorm by visiting their new web site, www.methodofseduction.com.

Felix & the Hurricanes have announced that they are teaming up with Chuck Navasky’s cancer-fighting band project, One Less Tear, to perform at several shows on the One Less Tear 2004 Survivor Tour; the tour kickoff is June 26 during Johnstown’s “Thunder In The Valley” at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena, opening for Blue Oyster Cult and Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers. For more information about One Less Tear, visit their website, www.onelesstear.com.

A new nonprofit organization, Get Closer to the Music, has formed to encourage area youth to explore the wide variety of music through a workshop, which will happen in Altoona sometime in late June. Interested teachers, instructors and vendors are invited to contact Jeff Van Clief at (814) 943-2439 or Ed Murvine at (814) 207-2934.

Lastly, sad news struck the area music scene this past week. Last Sunday, Jeff Showalter of Altoona died in a motorcycle accident in Juniata. He was 45. Jeff was a friend and fan to many bands on this area’s music scene, and was himself a drummer.
