Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 16 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to our guest, Images Of Eden singer and multi-instrumentalist Gordon Tittsworth, for making the roadtrip in from Baltimore to appear on this week’s program. We learned about Images Of Eden and their brand of progressive hard rock, and learned the story behind the band. We heard songs from the group’s self-titled debut CD and their latest 3-song EP, and several lucky listeners won copies of both discs. Along the way, we introduced new songs from Project Twelve, Stronghold, New Eden Orchestra and Backstreet Law. And for the record, the show's host did not cough up any lungs during the course of this week's program (though it sounded quite possible at times, damned hay fever!).

The playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE FLAME SKY – “Woodcutter”
AXUM – “The Point”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Stealth”
SEVENTH HOUR – “Bled Through My Tears”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Tied to a Wish”
THE GRIMM – “Flatline Part II”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Beyond the Horizon”
PROJECT TWELVE – “Terminal Torque”

HOUR TWO:

BALISTIC – “Power”
STRONGHOLD – “Stronghold”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Aladdin”
NEW EDEN ORCHESTRA – “Build a Better Mousetrap”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Brave Horse”
BACKSTREET LAW – “Frustrated”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “I Remember When…”
HALESTORM (METHOD OF SEDUCTION) – “It’s Not You”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “One Last Hero”

This Sunday night, our guests will be Pittsburgh area garage rockers Aixelsyd (pronounced “Axel-sidd”). We’ll hear songs from the group, and get inside their music, wild live show and more. Aixelsyd visits the “Backyard Rocker,” this Sunday night!

Other forthcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 23 – Aixelsyd
MAY 30 – Memorial Day Special
JUNE 6 – Wake Up Screaming
JUNE 13 – Millenium Music Conference Preview Special
JUNE 20 – Fathers & Sons/Daughters of Local Music Special

In local music news this week:

Several upcoming Relay for Life benefit events involving area bands headline our look at local music news…Two of those Relay for Life benefits will happen at Peter C’s in Altoona on May 22 and 28. The May 22 event this Saturday is being put together by the group Pneumatic, and will feature Pneumatic, along with Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys and Silver Sunday. The following Friday, May 28, Relay for Life benefit will also feature Pneumatic, along with Wake Up Screaming and Deviance. The following night, Saturday, May 29, a third Relay for Life benefit show will happen at City Limits in Altoona, and will feature the bands Hair Force One, Scream, Silver Sunday and Medousa’s Manhood. Proceeds from all three shows help in the fight against cancer.

Changes for several area bands to report. First, from the ashes of former State College area rock band E.S. Whitefisch rises a new band, simply called Whitefisch. The new line-up features former E.S. Whitefisch bassist Jason Fischer and drummer Doug White, former Blackseed guitarists Jodi Sinclair and Tom Crawford, and singer Johnny Bumgartner, who previously sang in the Pittsburgh band Crush Cycle.

Former “Backyard Rocker” guests, Harrisburg-based heavy rock band Num, will apparently be calling it quits at the end of this summer. Drummer Paul Cochran Jr. and bassist Shawn Smith will be leaving the band for personal and business meetings. Num’s final show will happen September 11.

And The Grimm is currently auditioning guitar players, seeking a replacement for Kirk “Otto” Tonkin. Kirk is leaving The Grimm to join The Smoke Run Band. Kirk will be performing with The Grimm until his replacement is found.
