Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 11 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

This week, we welcomed back to our studio the Lehigh Valley-based rock band Spitshine. We got caught up on the latest Spitshine happenings, and heard tracks from the group’s recently-released second CD, “Transaudio.” Spitshine also brought along guitars, and performed several tunes unplugged for us as well. In addition, we checked local music news, and the Professor’s CD Corner spotlighted Screamapillar’s debut CD, “Users and Abusers.” We also debuted new songs from Ethergy, Embassy and Ted McCloskey. It was a busy two hours, but a fun show!

This week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THIRD STANDARD – “Right Now”
POPTART MONKEYS – “7:30”
SPITSHINE – “Fall Away”
ETHERGY – “Watch Me”
SPITSHINE – “Satellite” (performed live on air)
SPITSHINE – “Mandalyn”
VS. THE EARTH – “Friend Zone”
SPITSHINE – “Everywhere You Go”
EMBASSY – “So Just for Now”

HOUR TWO:

FLAP JACK’N’JILL – “Not Me”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Strange, Strange Girls”
SPITSHINE – “I-H8-U” (performed live on air)
SPITSHINE – “Don’t Stop”
SCREAMAPILLAR – “The Tequila Song”
SPITSHINE – “Every Little Lie” (performed live on air)
SPITSHINE – “Dancefloor”
SPITSHINE – “No Good”

This Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be Happy Valley blues rockers Gypsy & the Crazymoon. We’ll get acquainted with the band members and learn about their music and career to date; plus hear recorded tracks from them. Plus Gypsy & the Crazymoon will be bringing their acoustic guitars and playing unplugged on the air for us as well! Gypsy & the Crazymoon, this Sunday night on the “Backyard Rocker!”

In local music news…

A big change for one of the region’s most popular bands. After several weeks of speculation, singer Carrie Rapaport and bassist Greg Folsom have parted ways with the band Juiced. Former Rhymes With Orange frontman Russ takes over lead vocals, and newcomer Peggy takes over bass duties for Juiced.

In other band personnel news, guitarist Jimi Hatt has announced his departure from local hair band rockers Hair Force One. The parting is on friendly terms.

An update on a former area musician…Justin Mackovyak, now residing in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area, recently landed a recording apprenticeship at Audacity Studios in Hollywood, Florida and is about 2 months from being Pro-Tools certified. Justin continues to perform every week solo, but is also in the process of putting together a new band as well and recording a new solo disc.

Two upcoming benefit shows are happening in the Johnstown area. First, on Friday, July 23rd, the 2nd annual Summer In The City benefit will take place at Ace’s Lounge in Johnstown, with proceeds going to the Greater Johnstown Jaycees Needy Children Christmas Shopping Tour. Dinner at 7 PM will be followed by performances by the bands The Conniptions, Ribbon Grass, and One Night Stand, featuring former members of Kindred Spirit and The Continentals. Tickets are $10.

The other benefit concert is the 2nd annual Rock The House benefit, happening Saturday, August 7 at Greenhouse Park in the Tire Hill area outside of Johnstown. The all-day concert starts at 10:30 AM, with proceeds benefiting the IMAC Foundation. Bands participating in this year’s Rock The House event include Yum, Pivot, Deviance, Flap Jack’n’Jill, Rennis, Borderline Inc., Lost Ledny, John Denver Flight School, Skell, Dubmissive, Subdue and Disasterpiece.
